FDA Seizes Some Drug Orders From I-SaveRX (Canada Site)
Once again the FDA "claims" they're doing it because the drugs could be counterfeit. Damn those Canadas and their "fake" drugs. Of course what should be mentioned is this is a website that was setup by a democratic governor who was trying to find a way to help low income seniors get affordable prescription drugs.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=513&e=5&u=/ap/20050310/ap_on_go_ot/prescription_drugs

CHICAGO - The Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites) has seized prescription drug orders sent from abroad to more than 50 customers of I-SaveRx, a multistate program to import cheaper prescription drugs from Europe and Canada.

The drugs, which were stopped at airports, included cholesterol lowering Lipitor (news - web sites) and bone-strengthening Fosamax. Customers learned of the seizure through letters from the FDA (news - web sites), which said the drugs did not have the proper labeling or were not federally approved.

FDA Associate Commissioner William Hubbard denied that the agency, which opposes drug imports, stopped the shipments in an effort to shut down I-SaveRx. He said the agency has always seized high-risk drugs that can easily be counterfeit, such as Lipitor.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich launched I-SaveRx last year to help participants save money on prescription drugs. It uses a Canada-based clearinghouse, CanaRx, to connect residents of Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and Wisconsin to pharmacies and wholesalers in Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The FDA opposes the importation, saying it can't ensure the safety of the drugs.

G. Anthony Howard of CanaRx Services Inc. said 54 I-SaveRx customers had drugs seized during the end of January and beginning of February. "The average age is over 70, they're all uninsured and they all need these medications," he said.

2. It happened to me. Seized my prescription drugs and sent me
a nasty letter. No health insurance here. It was scary and I thought I was going to jail.

3. Holy BATCRAP
Do they know you have a health condition and holding those drugs could affect you adversely.

The thing is - these drugs are as legit as can be except they happen to come from countries that manage to do it cheaper than anywhere else. Personally I think the FDA should be taken to courts about these illegal seisures. It's bullshit that they wouldn't help out the little folks who couldn't afford these drugs without websites like SaveRX

5. Not only are the drugs legit...
...in most cases, they are the identical drugs made by the identical manufacturers as here in the good ol' USofA. And the FDA knows it damned well. The *only* issue is the distribution, and here the FDA is firmly entrenched with the Bush admin in their eagerness to give Big Pharma the handout that was agreed upon as part of the Medicare bill and it's so called drug benefits.

7. Yes, this happened to me and I posted it on DU late one night.
I can't find the post. But the subject was something to the effect of DON'T BUY DRUGS ONLINE - BUSTED. Believe it was in the Lounge under my name caledesi.

I got a form letter from them and a xeroxed copy of why these drugs from Canada are dangerous (yeah, right). They say that if they didnt hear from me, the drugs would be destroyed within 30 days. I did not respond. I want them to forgot about me - don't want "sneak and peeks."

Is this the former Soviet Union. I don't recognize this country/

So, I got stiffed for about $100. nice, huh?

6. Not only does this hurt consumers, I think it might be intended
as a slap on the wrist for some Democratic governors (like Kansas' Kathleen Sebelius) who were encouraging the use of this service to save constituents' money (and lives)... :(

Once again, our government is more concerned with making its industry friends happy than with our well-being.

8. Damn Canada and those dangerous drugs.
Canada should stop buying those dangerous drugs from American companies and get them from safer sources.

Poor FDA cannot assure the safety of the drugs that are USA manufactured and distributed - Vioxx anyone?
