Lives in Danger in 'Dolphin War' Warn Coastguards

Greenpeace claim flares have been fired at them from some of the trawlers, which they began targeting nearly a month ago.

On Tuesday Greenpeace said they pulled from the water three mutilated dolphins after intercepting a pair of French vessels fishing 40 miles off Plymouth. <snip>

Greenpeace protesters have dumped two dead dolphins on the steps of the French embassy in London as part of its campaign to end pair trawling. <snip>

The dolphins were recovered in the English Channel by the Greenpeace ship Esperanza and stored in a freezer container in order for them to be taken to London and left on the steps of the embassy in Knightsbridge.

A Greenpeace spokesman said that 16 French pair-trawler fishing boats were operating within a 12-mile radius of where the bodies of the dolphins were discovered.

One of the dolphins was lactating, suggesting it had recently given birth, the spokesman added. <snip>
