WASHINGTON - The State Department said Friday the ousted president of Kyrgyzstan had left the country and the Bush administration would work jointly with Russia to promote a "sense of order" there.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) telephoned Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an effort to join forces with Russia in easing tensions in the former Soviet republic. "They saw eye-to-eye on the situation," State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said afterward.
"Both agreed on the importance of the rule of law, nonviolence and the support of the international community," Ereli said.
The pan-European Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe is in the lead in trying to assist the Kyrgyz people work through political transition in the country, Ereli said.
