500 Agents to Be Added to Arizona Border
WASHINGTON -- The Homeland Security Department will assign more than 500 additional patrol agents to the porous Arizona border, saying they will help keep potential terrorists and illegal immigrants from entering the country, The Associated Press has learned.

The border buildup was to be announced Wednesday -- two days before civilian volunteers with the so-called Minutemen Project begin a monthlong Arizona patrol against immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico line.

About 155 agents will be immediately sent to Arizona, according to a department official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the buildup was not yet announced. Another 350 agents -- all new trainees -- will be permanently assigned to the Arizona border by Sept. 30.

Until they are in place, an additional 200 agents will be temporarily stationed in Arizona during the high immigration season this spring and summer, the official said.

9. There we go, engaging in revisionist history again!
It's just like when we ignorant liberals thought the invasion of Iraq had something to do with securing weapons of mass destruction when is was always about freeing the Iraqi people and never had anything to do with wmds. Same story all over again: here we foolish liberals are, imagining the 9/11 attackers were Saudis... I mean, Afghanis, oops, excuse me, Iraqis, when everyone knows that the World Trade Center was really brought down by hoardes of disgruntled migrant fruit pickers who pelted the towers with strawberries and asparagus until they collapsed under the relentless barrage!

3. Soon Americans will have to cross the boarder to get work.
All the downsizing and outsourcing will turn this place into a third world country soon enough.

8. I wrote a short story about something like this 15 years ago
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 01:01 PM by ixion
based on something I heard Nixon say on Nightline.

In an interview not too long before he kicked, he used the phrase "and those other third world losers" in a response to Ted Koppel.

That phrase set off a chain reaction, which produced my short story "Nick with Nixon at Night".

In short, it was a story about a couple right-wing whackos who heard this interview, and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Suffice to say, it went poorly.

At the time it was called 'far-fetched' and 'extreme', but lowe and behold (and much to my chagrin) my work of fiction has come true today, manifesting in the Minuteman Project. :-(

Gang will target Minuteman vigil on Mexico border(MS-13 Gang)

Members of a violent Central America-based gang have been sent to Arizona to target Minuteman Project volunteers, who will begin a monthlong border vigil this weekend to find and report foreigner sneaking into the United States, project officials say.

...More than 1,000 volunteers are expected to take part in the Minuteman vigil, which will include civilian patrols along a 20-mile section of the San Pedro River Valley, which has become a frequent entry point to the United States for foreigner headed north.

Between these two groups and the extra border patrollers, it sounds like it could get crowded around there.
