US envoy calls for equal opportunities, positions for women in military
By Times Reporter
UNITED States (US) ambassador to Zambia Martin Brennan has called for increased women participation in influential positions including the military service.

Mr Brennan said in Lusaka yesterday when he opened a conference for women in the military that anybody with ability should be given an opportunity to participate in any sector including the military.

He said equality of opportunity would give chance to people previously hindered from occupying leadership positions.Over 40 military women participated in the conference.

“Equality of opportunity means much more than opening the top positions to those who have traditionally been excluded from leadership,” he said

He told the participants, mostly from the Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force and the Zambia National Service, to seek opportunities that matched their talents.

Why would the U.S. ambassador be telling them how to conduct their internal affairs?
