(Senator) Collins criticizes several Bush approaches
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, criticized President Bush and distanced herself from Republican colleagues during a wide-ranging discussion of policy issues with the editorial board of the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram Tuesday. Here is a sample of what Collins said.

# President Bush mishandled the debate on Social Security reform by proposing the creation of personal retirement accounts instead of focusing on how to stabilize the program's long-term financial health.

...

# Congress set a bad precedent by forcing a federal court review in the case of Terri Schiavo, a Florida woman who was removed from life support.

...

I'm really getting tired of her as a "moderate" Republican. WHen it really counts she's there with her hero, Bush, voting for Frist, Gonzalez, Rice, etc. During her campaign she made a statement saying she'd never vote against a Bush appointment. She's a moderate my ass!

I still can't believe Maine re-elected her. :grr:

It's a classic game. Go home and say one thing - go to DC and do another and hope they don't notice back home. They usually don't and most people don't care anyway.

She'll be on board the Soc Security destruction train when it leaves the station.

3. Distancing - expect more of it

Jeb will distance himself from his brother's mistakes but align himself with the same "values"

So will all the R's running for reelection.

4. Repugs
All repugs vote strictly on party lines. When it comes to voting, they leave their principles and conscience at the door of the Capitol!
