HUNDREDS of protesters in Papua New Guinea yesterday demanded an Australian government apology for Prime Minister Michael Somare's treatment during a security check at Brisbane Airport.
More than 500 protesters marched on the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby to present a petition demanding an apology and compensation following last Thursday's incident in which Mr Somare was asked to remove his shoes. <snip>
Protesters gathered at a park to hear speakers condemn Australian treatment of Mr Somare before marching on the high commission waving placards and branches cut from trees and chanting "we love Somare".
Placards condemned Australia for bullying tactics and one declared that when Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer next visited PNG he would be stripped naked. <snip>
