ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey (AP) -- For Elisa Hernandez, no meant no --and a tragic death at age 15.

When a frustrated suitor named Alfred Bishop asked her for a kiss, she refused him. Again and again, he asked. She said no. When he pulled out a revolver and pointed at her head, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jeffrey Blitz said, she pushed it away.

"She laughed him off," Blitz said.

The rejection cost her: After being rebuffed, Bishop shot her through the eye, cutting short the life of a bubbly, self-assured high school sophomore who loved hip-hop and dancing and went by "Lisa," according to authorities.

Any parents out there that would have a guy like that over drinking at their house? And what would you do if the guy threatened and harrassed your daughter? This didn't have to happen.

I've been home this week with a cold and though I don't watch much TV, I did watch some lately. Mr Fuzz is a TV addict and was watching in the bedroom where I was; those custom chopper-building shows. So, I notice the subtext is, guys having fun bonding with bikes; girls show up briefly once in a great while as loyal wives or anonymous bimbos when the guys go for entertainment breaks or a quick date.

Ads feature guys having fun in their big trucks, or having fun drinking groovy beverages while triumphing at extreme sports. Or lording it over their friends whose computers aren't as fast as theirs. Women show up working at toilet cleaning and childcare, during the day. Evening demographics switch to women who do nothing much, except beautify their hair, face, bodies or look beautiful while admiring their guys achieving some success or other as they enjoy whatever the given product is.

Hmmmmmmm.

Last, I caught some network (Spike) joke to announce CSI coming up next, to whit: CSI---what do we learn from this show, guys? Don't piss off your girlfriend.

I was pissed alright--at the disingenuous nature of that statement. What are the stats? 80% of all women killed are murdered by boyfriends or husbands? I can't remember exactly, but on average, it's not poor innocent guys needing to protect themselves from "women on the warpath". The truth, that men endanger women's lives, is so typically glossed over in popular culture, instead the jokes are always about poor poor men having to put up with nagging harpies.
