Strike averted (Saint-Gobain Containers / IL)
Bottle factory workers have new contract

BY PAUL AYARS
THE COURIER

A strike at a Lincoln glass bottle factory was averted today as union and company representatives reached a contract agreement in the wee hours of the morning in Florida.

As a result, the 160-plus hourly employees in two locals of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union at Lincoln’s Saint-Gobain Containers plant continued working as usual today. <snip>

Plant employee Thomas Gallagher of Lincoln, a member of the union bargaining team in Florida, said discussions over health insurance carried the contract talks into the pre-dawn hours. <snip>

The union represents more than 4,000 members nationwide at more than a dozen Saint-Gobain plants. Related negotiations covered other union workers at Owens-Illinois and Anchor Glass factories in the country. <snip>
