Bomb hits Iraqi oil pipeline, exports at a standstill
Edited on Tue Apr-05-05 08:40 AM by NNN0LHI
BAIJI: An explosion hit an oil pipeline in northern Iraq on Monday as sabotage kept exports to Turkey idle, witnesses said.

A bomb was detonated next to one of the pipelines running through the Riyad area near the refining centre of Baiji, security officials said.

It was not known whether the blast targeted the Iraq-Turkey export pipeline or one of several domestic crude and refined oil products pipelines in the area.

The export pipeline to Turkey’s Ceyhan port, which has been idle for most of the past two years, was hit in Riyad last week, further delaying repairs.

1. 60$ a barrel by the end of the week?
I remember in 2000 when the Bush campaign was bitching about high oil prices when it was going for 36$ a barrel.

7. I'd love to have the quote from shrubya blasting Gore for opening
the strategic reserves and getting the Saudis to open up the spigots.

I'd send that quote and a picture of gas prices to that stupid fucker every damned day. $2.21 here in Pittsburgh - up $0.35 in the last 4 weeks.

“I would work with our friends in OPEC to convince them to open up the spigot, to increase the supply. Use the capital that my administration will earn, with the Kuwaitis or the Saudis, and convince them to open up the spigot.”
</SNIP>

<SNIP>
No, I don’t. I agree with the energy secretary that the strategic petroleum reserve is meant for a national wartime emergency. What I think the president ought to do is get on the phone with the OPEC cartel and say we expect you to open your spigots. One reason why the price is so high is because the price of crude oil has been driven up. OPEC has gotten its supply act together and it’s driving the price, like it did in the past. And the president must jawbone OPEC members to lower the price. And if in fact there is collusion amongst big oil, he ought to intercede there as well.

No matter how smart you think you are - someone always finds what you're looking for.

Thanks a million.

Now to get some photos and shrubya's email account.

The final question is how to dress when the Secret Service show up.

12. As I recall, no private insurance companies would insure Iraq ventures
Not even L.Paul Bremer's former company.

So you know who insured all those American corporate ventures in Iraq?

I'll give you one guess: It's you and me. The US Export/Import Bank underwrote the whole thing.

So even after we finally get the troops out of there, the American people will have to pay back Bush's corporate toadies to compensate for Bush's stupid plans not working out...

Says, "Service Not Available."

Is there another source for this?

On edit: Nevermind. Everyone must have been clicking it at once. It went through the second time.

5. People keep posting all this bad news.
What about the good news? I'm sure someone opened a lemonade stand in the desert and the biased media wouldn't cover it.

9. If this is in 'Kurdistan'
I have to wonder whether it is our forces doing this to keep oil prices high.

It's either than or the Kurds do not have as firm a grip on the region as we are being told.

16. Exactly
That's supposedly the most peaceful part of Iraq, Kirkuk is even supposed to be ready to "provide for its own security", so how come this keeps happening?
