Senate Wary of Changing Filibuster Rules
Senate Wary of Changing Filibuster Rules

By JESSE J. HOLLAND
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A group of moderate Republicans - and some old GOP bulls who've labored under Democratic as well as Republican control - hold the fate of President Bush's judicial nominees in their hands.

Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., is irked that Democrats have used filibusters to block 10 of Bush's choices for federal appeals courts.

He's vowed not to let it happen this year, particularly with the possibility that there could soon be a Supreme Court nominee to consider. But to carry out that promise might require changing Senate rules that now allow just 41 members to block any judicial nominee.

Frist needs 50 votes in the 100-member Senate to change the rules. Vice President Dick Cheney could then break a tie. But getting 50 votes from the 55 Republicans is no sure thing.

2. They *should* be wary. The consequences of the nuclear option
could be very destructive and long-lasting.

3. Our Republic is Hanging By a Thread

Repubs almost always fall into (party) line in the end.
Many are being blackmailed, openly now, by the regime.
Having made it general knowledge that Guckert was running a gay sex club
for DC pols, any photographic 'evidence' they come out with, real or
Photoshopped, will be played up by the media and believed by constituants.
Paradoxically, the only Congresspeople who would be immune to this are
the openly-gay ones!

For the rest, defying the regime means political and personal ruin.
We can only hope that some will put their country above their career.

The nuclear option would turn the US into a one-party nation, permanently.

They would have nothing to fear from the Democrats or any other
opposition party in the future, because once they control the Supreme Court
they have ultimate control of all election outcomes, as we found out in 2000.

4. That evil repub group on C-Span yesterday
were definitely certain the repubs had the votes. They were some kind of interest group made of other groups for the elimination of the filibuster. They were so blatantly evil.

5. I called my GOP senator yesterday, did you??
Domenici. I told the lady that he had a good reputation and didn't need to sully himself. The woman said she felt like they (Congress) should all go home!! Elected officials acting like children!!

I went on to say that OK, the GOP has the power, but now we're talking about ABUSE of power.....

6. Do all you can to prevent Frist's 'nuclear option' from happening.
Even if your Senator has a voting record being against our opinion, write them anyway. There is a chance.
