Top (Medicare) Official Charged (with falsifying documents)
Top CMS official is charged
By Bob Cusack

Medicare’s chief medical officer has been charged with falsifying records, failing to comply with subpoenas and exhibiting unprofessional conduct in the practice of medicine.

Sean Tunis, a top policymaker at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and a former Senate staffer, is accused of altering documents to show that he had complied with continuing medical education (CME) requirements.

snip....

Tunis is a key policymaker at CMS, overseeing the agency’s coverage shop, which determines whether Medicare will cover drugs, devices and other therapies. Tunis is expected to play a major role in deciding Medicare’s coverage policy on certain pharmaceuticals as part of the new Medicare drug benefit, which goes into effect in January.

Mods: I changed CMS to Medicare because, even though I'm on Medicare and follow politics very closely, I've never heard of CMS and thought that might be a common reaction.

2. Ah, who is is charge of federal agencies?
They are not doing their job. Not that any GOP member would admit anything other than exemplary behavior. The Bush administration = we never did anything wrong, and it was always someone else's fault if there was wrongdoing. We get the message.

3. "CMS" is on the return address of all payment statements
... at least for my mother who's got Blue Cross Supplemental. I associate the initials with those who decide what not to cover.

4. ah, thanks (re: CMS)
cMS meant nothing to me but Medicare is secondary coverage so I don't get statements from them because they never cover anything for me.
