Castro: Bush at Pope Funeral 'Hypocrisy'
Cuban President Fidel Castro criticized President Bush's attendance at Pope John Paul II's funeral Friday as "hypocrisy" because of the pontiff's opposition to the war in Iraq, and he downplayed the pope's role in toppling communism in the former Soviet bloc.

U.S. officials "went to cry in the presence of John Paul II, who was so against war, who so condemned the world order imposed by that empire (the United States), who so condemned consumerism," Castro said in his speech Thursday. "How far will hypocrisy go in this world? In my opinion it's an insult to John Paul II's memory."

3. Repeat After Me......

Bush Has No Scupples....Bush Has No Concern.....Bush is a Trained Grandstander......The Only Thing Bush is Concerned About is Himself.

He hates not having the world focused on him that is the only reason he sent himself over there......

BTW why is Clinton allowing himself to be used...What does Bush have up his sleeves?????????

11. Only now you're asking why Clinton "allows himself to be used"?
Perhaps you didn't notice that two terms' worth of bombing Iraq; the destruction of welfare; the groundwork for the Patriot Act; or the work on privatizing social security done by Summers for Clinton.

9. Well, Catro is a politician, first and foremost.
At least he has the guts to say what most of the world thinks.

What's really sad, is most here agree with the Old Commie Fart on his views of Bush.

8. More quotes from Castro in the article:
"It's true that the pope was very critical of communism," Castro said. "But he also became very critical of the capitalist system."

An impassioned Castro spoke at length about the pope's historic 1998 visit to the island, saying, "He did not come with the intention of destroying the (Cuban) revolution."

"If one day Cuban socialism comes crumbling down, no one is to blame except ourselves," he said.

"No one can force me to believe in something," Castro said.

Castro urged Cubans to respect all religious — and nonreligious — beliefs, saying "these are personal affairs for each person, and all faiths deserve the utmost respect."

13. Why does a former revolutionary, communist, dictator, ruler make more
sense about the Pope than our own imperialists? Castro is savvy about plenty. And the rest of the world knows it as well.

20. Things may be looking up for Castro.
This "old fart" has recently signed some agreements with Hugo Chavez. Chavez is going to supply Castro with oil, and Cuba will send trained physicians to Venezuela. The US is currently pulling its hair out over this one.

In a less-known story, Castro has signed an agreement with a Canadian & Russian salvage company to excavate some buried treasure outside Cuba. Apparently there are something like 500 shipwrecks from 'Pirates of the Caribbean' (for real!!).

Since the US is not friendly with Cuba, they were X'ed out of the deal. As it turns out, the Canadians quickly found a shipwreck LOADED with loot. They're going to split the treasure 50-50 with Castro. Who says you can't find buried treasure?

I'm sure it will push the US to a thermonuclear meltdown, too, considering they were left out of the booty.:smoke:

21. Thanks for the info about the buried treasure - the Cuban-Americans
in Florida (who are totally responsible for maintaining a 46 year old clampdown on Cuba - one that should have disappeared with the take down of the Berlin Wall) - are going to say one of two things =

1. That buried treasure is as much ours as Castro's - or -

2. Who cares about some old buried treasure.

See what could have been going on if they hadn't had such a gripe about the evil Castro.

It's time for them to stop keeping this nation hostage. Dem and Repub Congresspeople and Senators complied with every Cuban-American demand and tantrum for years, then they pocketed their share of our taxpayer money that was laundered through NED and CANF. I wonder how much they are still getting? It probably doesn't compare to what the Russians are going to get.

I know that many people supplant the word 'Castro' for the term 'the Cuban government' - a common mistake, after all, we have been indoctrinated with 45+ years of US anti Castro propaganda in an attempt to distract the American public from the fact that it is the people of Cuba who made the revolution against US imperialism happen and it is the Cuban people who run the island's government.

It is the Cuban government that approves all trade deals with foreign countries and corporate entities, such as the governments of Venezuela and Canada and companies that operate within. Conversely, Mr. Castro is not the recipient of the sales and agreements between the government of Cuba and foreign governments/corporations. The revenues generated from such deals go to the Cuban government's treasury.

16. you GO, Fidel! . . . tell it like it is! . . .
I've never thought Fidel was as bad as a lot of people make him out to be . . . certainly not as bad as a lot of other dictators who this country actually supports! . . . and leave us not forget that the US initially supported his insurrection and the ouster of Battista (I think that was his name) . . . I was pretty young back then, but I do remember it . . .

If only we had a leader that could do the same, or point out Iraq on a map... or spell his own name for that matter.

Cuba will be next on the list. Bunch of old cold war people running the country anyway, they remember the Cuba plan.

He does speak the truth...I'm shocked at my agreement!
