Boston Herald fires writer aiding governor
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/11348902.htm

The Boston Herald on Friday fired a columnist who signed a contract worth up to $10,000 to help Gov. Mitt Romney's administration promote its environmental policies.

Herald Publisher Patrick Purcell initially said the paper would continue Charles Chieppo's weekly column, a day after he began working for the governor's Executive Office of Environmental Affairs. The contract calls for him to help officials write op-ed pieces and internal documents.

A few hours later, however, Purcell released a second statement that read, "Upon further review, the Boston Herald has decided to sever our relationship with Charles Chieppo."

Chieppo said he respected the Herald's decision and would miss writing.

1. That's great news....
..the earlier report said it's okay as long you disclose the financial source, and I was VERY upset about that. Thank goodness the Herald came to their senses.

14. Huh? "the Herald came to their senses" ????

Huh? "the Herald came to their senses" ???? Tis more like the Boston Herald and Purcell were caught red-handed with their pants down!! Purcell didn't fire that idiot until the Boston Globe ran front page articles on it! It was in Purcell's face, period.

May Patrick Purcell and his sleazy cronies rot.

2. I always enjoyed the Boston Herald
Damn, I miss living in that part of the country. Living in a red state really sucks. So many morons.

11. I enjoyed finding a free copy to line the bird cage with
...because the tabloid sheets fit perfectly in the tray, and that bird craps a lot. I won't pay for one though. Ever.

Other than that, it is the most dispicable rag in the greater Boston area. The Manchester Union Leader is a piece of work, as well.

I take great joy in that they are having circulation problems, especially with their Sunday edition, which is losing money hand over fist.

The Globe still needs work, but at least they have the occasional SPOTLIGHT TEAM article. The recent one on the guy that ran the Department of Labor, who was paid $108K per annum, took seven week vacations, and worked two hours a day, was absolutely priceless--so much for Mitt the Shitt "reforming" the state!!

8. It was a stupid move by Romney, the Herald would have pushed the
program for him for free.

12. A pinky in the dike, but a start, nonetheless
Unfortunately THIS is what the Think Tanks are all about, and have been from their inception. The TAKE-OVER of the media and the message.

We all know about Rush, & Sean & Savage-weiner & Laura Ingraham & Boortz and all their pals, but they are the "farm-team"...The sly infiltration of supposedly mainstream media types is where the real action is :(.

The think tanks do little more than "perfect" the message they want put forth, and then submit it to all their cronies. We see it EVERY day..how often are the "experts" we see on ALL media, from Heritage, Cato or some other amorphous group with a "calm-sounding" name. It's NO ACCIDENT.. They have been at this for 30+ years.. We have just woken up and noticed what's been happening, and are still arguing about how to combat it, while they have all the refutations to our protests patented and committed to memory

Control the message and you control it all..

13. Great news. Good to see he's gone.
He was not a clean writer if he was deeply entangled with Romney's administraton. Outlandish that they thought they could pretend otherwise.

18. I bet Romney would like to get his $10,000 back now.
I'm guessing that he was only worth that much to them because of his Boston Herald column.,
