Pakistani (Khan) Is Indicted in (by US) Nuclear Weapons Case
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 09:37 PM by Rose Siding
WASHINGTON — A Pakistani military supplier has been indicted in an investigation into a network now suspected of supplying both Pakistan and India with outlawed components for their nuclear weapons and ballistic missile systems, federal authorities disclosed Friday.

Humayun A. Khan, 47, of Islamabad, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday, based in part on information provided by a former business associate who has been secretly cooperating with authorities for more than a year. The Justice Department ordered Khan's indictment unsealed Friday, along with the plea agreement signed last November by the associate, Asher Karni of South Africa.

Documents in both of those cases portray a network that has operated longer and more extensively than federal authorities had previously acknowledged.

Khan is accused of illegally exporting several shipments of specialized equipment from the United States that can be used to test, develop and detonate nuclear weapons. He did so, the court documents contend, by conspiring with Karni to route the shipments through South Africa to avoid raising suspicion..........

3. Here's some of the backstory on this Khan
March 26
Illegal Nuclear Deals Alleged

WASHINGTON — A federal criminal investigation has uncovered evidence that the government of Pakistan made clandestine purchases of U.S. high-technology components for use in its nuclear weapons program in defiance of American law.

Federal authorities also say the highly specialized equipment at one point passed through the hands of Humayun Khan, an Islamabad businessman who they say has ties to Islamic militants.

Even though President Bush has been pushing for an international crackdown on such trafficking, efforts by two U.S. agencies to send investigators to Pakistan to gather more evidence have hit a bottleneck in Washington, said officials knowledgeable about the case.

The impasse is part of a larger tug-of-war between federal agencies that enforce U.S. nonproliferation laws and policymakers who consider Pakistan too important to embarrass. The transactions under review began in early 2003, well after President Pervez Musharraf threw his support to the Bush administration's war on terrorism and the invasion of neighboring Afghanistan to oust Pakistan's former Taliban allies..........

5. The truth: BushInc won't reveal much because it leads to Poppy and BCCI.
And Bush knows that Kerry knows it, too.

they can and sanitize all the parts that implicate Bush1 and his BCCI cronies.

There will be alot of shredding or black ink used....and, of course, sealing the documents as classified national security.
