Bush Thanks Soldiers for Serving in Iraq
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/bush

FORT HOOD, Texas - President Bush visited soldiers at the largest U.S. military base Tuesday, marking the two-year anniversary of the end of Saddam Hussein's regime by saying it will be remembered along with the fall of the Berlin Wall as one of history's greatest moments.

Bush thanked the soldiers at Fort Hood who have recently returned from Iraq or are heading there this fall, but said it isn't time to start bringing U.S. forces home.

Base officials said 25,000 soldiers came to hear the commander in chief. As the Marine One helicopter carrying Bush came in for a landing, the pilot circled the enormous crowd crammed shoulder-to-shoulder on a base parade field, waving hand-held American flags.

He was meeting privately with the families of about 30 soldiers who have been killed before leaving the base. Ft. Hood has lost 146 soldiers in Iraq, according to Fort Hood spokesman Lt. Col. Dan Baggio.

2. Well, except the ones who object to the war.
It's just way too dangerous for there to be conflict in the president's quarterly joyfest.

12. No they were probably ordered as well. If they speak out during something
like that then bad things happen :)

4. wtf? Even HE says the intelligence was WRONG and there were no WMDs..
(of course he's scapegoating the intel crowd, but nevertheless) so, on some level, he admits Iraq was the wrong country to invade....but its

remembered along with the fall of the Berlin Wall as one of history's greatest moments.

Well, I think it will be paired in memory with Berlin, but not from the fall of the wall, more like the attempts at world domination by a country led by a madman.

6. Thanks for that nice jolt of pure propaganda to start my day.
The little flags are such a nice decorative touch, brightens up the photos a lot, don't you think? And the ARMY jacket, subtle, connecting...
A little bunting wouldn't hurt though. Maybe Martha could help.

I wonder if they let em ask any questions this time. *'s presence there says he got the word on his downward spiral among the troops.

God bless those good men and women. I am horrified we asked so much of them for this unnecessary and illegal conflict. Hope they all come home healthy and soon to a country with VA benefits and an intact Social Security system and economy. Oh wait...that would be under the Kerry Admin. Well I hope they come home healthy and soon then.

7. "Bush Says Trained Iraqi Troops Now Outnumber U.S." related
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 12:48 PM by leftchick
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050412/pl_nm/bush_dc&cid=615&ncid=1480

FORT HOOD, Texas (Reuters) - President Bush said on Tuesday trained Iraqi security forces now outnumber U.S. troops in Iraq and are playing a greater role in fighting insurgents.

<snip>

"Like free people everywhere, Iraqis want to be defended and led by their own countrymen," Bush said. "We will help them achieve this objective so Iraqis can secure their own nation and then our troops will come home with the honor they have earned."

Bush offered no timetable on a withdrawal. He said about 150,000 Iraqi military and police and other security personnel had now been trained, outnumbering the estimated 140,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.

"There's a lot of hard work ahead," he said. "The Iraqi people face brutal and determined enemies. But Iraqis are also determined and they have the will to defeat the insurgency."

... I really don't know how many more lies I can take. :banghead:

9. And he is so good with numbers and figurin' huh?
That sounds like a nosensical e-mail someone posted in GD a week or so ago. The e-mail they received had some unbelieveable THEN and NOW numbers for Iraq including XXXXXX Iraqi police XXXXXXXX Iraqi soldiers and such. W said that to reaffirm that chain e-mail probably and it just so happened to get in the wire report.

26. That is exactly what I was thinking -- "Triumph of the Will"
Where are all the little "Bushitler youth"?? They should be prominently displayed as well.

The shrub is unbelievable. He "thanks them"...oh, I'm sure that means a lot. How about a decent living wage? How about you quit cutting benefits to our vets? How about you quit starting wars for no reason?

Surprised he didn't try to land the helicopter himself...

Fuck Bush.

18. Did someone use the PS clone tool on the crowds again?
I'm sure Goebbels would have pioneered that technique had the technology been around in the 1940s.

The POS was thanking the soldiers for making him and his cronies millions and billions.

21. I'd like a close up with Bush in his "jacket". It does have something
embroidered on it. It has to be Commander in Chief or some such. What is the wording on his "flight jacket". I'm so ashamed of all this BS!

22. isn't it sickening?
This military dress-up game he plays is just grotesque. Given that he went AWOL during a time of war, it's a disgrace to every person who served to have this ninny donning faux military togs constantly.
