DeLay team builds a new war room
House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) has assembled a “formal structure” to counter news stories about his perceived ethical improprieties and ensure the support of Republican lawmakers, GOP sources say. The team — which includes DeLay Chief of Staff Tim Berry, Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Flynn, Communications Director Dan Allen, general counsel Elliot Berkes and policy adviser Brett Shogren — holds a 7:30 a.m. conference call with aides from the Speaker’s office, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the Republican National Committee (RNC) to discuss daily media coverage of DeLay.

13. Is that what Frontline was about last night?
I surfed and saw a few minutes of Rove and Hughes and Bush and had to turn it off. I was already depressed.

11. Power Wastes Those Who Do Not Have It.
Don't think for a moment those who are in power do not use it to keep themselves there.

What is the most surprising aspect of all this, is that the USA people still believe the system in the USA is somehow not corrupt and corrupting. People in USA truly believe they are different and their system is different.

Many people believe once DeLay is removed then the problem will fix itself.

12. Another name for "war room"...
...."the room in which we spin corruption, lies, crimes and general debauchery into gold."

I'm so sick of this "war room" mentality.

America is tired of being propagandized. We're sick of lying politicians reacting to stories by attacking the truth and failing to address the real issues.

How do these beady-eyed little weasels live with themselves?

Real men don't need "war rooms." Real men behave with honor, class and dignity. They certainly don't park themselves in the shadow of a woman in a vegetative state--to escape accountability.

This is just a game to them. DeLay thinks he's entitled to be a politician, even though he lacks decency, honor, integrity and honesty.

15. Unfortunately, he can't "counter" the Cheney/Rove kiss of death
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 09:09 AM by rocknation
Cheney and Rove could easily have overlooked DeLay's threats to the judges. But when he went on to threaten to pull the purse strings on any Repub who didn't support him, he also threatened the Bush Oval Office power base. Why does he think he's getting all this bad press in the first place? You're history, RoachBoy--Cheney and Rove can't allow you control the GOP that way, because it would put THEM out of business. War room, my ass--you should really call it a bunker!

16. It seems obvious that taxpayer dollars are being embezzled ...
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 09:08 AM by TahitiNut
... to help fund this corrupt partisan jihad. The implications seem clear from the job titles (who's paying the salaries?) and other references ...
  • "... Chief of Staff ..."
  • "... Deputy Chief of Staff ..."
  • "... Communications Director ..."
  • "... general counsel ..."
  • "... policy adviser ..."
  • "... conference call with aides from the Speaker’s office ..." (this is public property)
  • "... hold their own meeting in DeLay’s first-floor Capitol office ..." (this is public property)
  • "... meet as needed throughout the day informally ..." (while being paid a public salary?)

http://www.hillnews.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage/041305/delay.html

Every time I see this kind of activity, I go back to my long-held belief that we need a law that imposes exactly the same kind of "personal service contract" provisions that many businesses have with key employees. I believe that it should be a felony for any elected or appointed public official, holding a position of public trust, to engage in any kind of fund-raising or compensated activity of any kind other than the office to which they're elected/appointed. That would include a complete prohibition on personally engaging in campaign fund-raising, either for themselves or for any other incumbent. All campaign activities should exclude any direct involvement by the incumbent other than specifically-accommodated public appearances during a campaign "season" where the actual expenses of such an appearance are borne completely by the campaign itself. (No more artificial "equivalents" - such as the purported cost of commercial flight in lieu of Air Force One actual expenses.)

Absolutely no public real property of any kind should ever be employed for partisan political activities. Not the Capitol, not the White House, not a military base, nothing!

With such a law, term limits and other contrived, esoteric legislation on campaign fund-raising would be unnecessary.
