Medics responded to one of the compounds where a detainee appeared to be suffering from seizures. The detainee was quickly moved to the first aid station where appropriate life-saving procedures failed to resuscitate him. An attending physician at the aid station pronounced him dead at 9:40 a.m.
The detainee had been held at Camp Bucca since May of last year as a threat to the security of Iraq. The remains will be transferred to the family upon completion of an autopsy. This is standing procedure for all detainees who die while in custody of the Multi-National Force.
Though the detainee’s death appears to be from natural causes, as a normal course of action an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death will be conducted.
