Schwarzenegger Sorry for Border Comment
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2005/04/20/national/a143003D72.DTL

Blaming his faulty English, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Wednesday said he misspoke when he suggested that California's border with Mexico should be closed to help solve the nation's illegal immigration problem.

...

"Yesterday was a total screw-up in the words I used," the Republican said at a news conference. "Because instead of closing, I meant securing. I think maybe my English, I need to go back to school and study a little bit."

...

"I don't think the governor identifies himself with that kind of rhetoric," said Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, a Democrat. "I don't know why he said it, but I'm very pleased he has totally removed himself from those folks who espouse that kind of hatred."

Nunez's office, however, pointed out that Schwarzenegger said something very similar in a 2003 interview with Fox TV host Bill O'Reilly.

Arnold just happen to have be a member of the racist pressure group
US English.

Arnold's Language Barrier

Gubernatorial recall candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has so far successfully dodged questions about his racy past and his alleged centrist politics, may be in for a rocky recall ride. Called on by the nation's oldest Latino civil rights group to step down from the English-only group, U.S. English, Arnold may have to answer some tough questions very soon.

The League of United Latin American Citizens exposed Schwarzenegger's ties to U.S. English late last month -- LULAC argues that the English-only organization pushes an anti-immigrant agenda.

...

Mr. Universe, however is still on U.S. English's Advisory Board (along with Charleton Heston) and continues to stand his ground. According to The Associated Press, Arnie says that he is "the poster child for immigrants." In fact, says his spokesman, Schwarzenegger only hopes to foster immigrant success by pushing for an English-only country. The Washington Times reports:

'Arnold Schwarzenegger came to this country with a few dollars in his pocket and not speaking the English language, and he realized the importance of learning to speak English as quickly as possible to achieve your American dreams,' said."

Sorry Arnie, but the plight of a European immigrant bodybuilder seems a far cry from a poor, migrant farmerworker.

...

1. Does the dumbfuck not realize that Mexico does billions of dollars a year
worth of business with the US? Most of it being spent in states like California and Texas?

6. They just want to project a "doing something" front
While "doing something" to our treasury and retirement while we're distracted.

What he really meant, in proper English, was something about giving every one ice cream. Funny how language can be inartful, and harmful in a nucular manner.

Arnold is from Austria, yes?

28. Remove foot, replace with other
while attempting to levitate. Arnold is developing bushitis/bullshititis, an unfortunatly common disease found in political and corporate circles. The carrier is prone to making incredibly inarticulate statements of sheer folly, resulting in increasing unpopularity. This illness is often also called "foot-in-mouth" disease, and is apparently congenital in some families.

5. Whatever!
You worthless pos. You just showed your colors yet again Arnie. Immigrants are fine as long as they are European, but we don't want no dirty "Messicans." :sarcasm: I guess he figured out how many Mexicans there actually are in California, many of whom are legal and able to vote, despite what MSM says. Then there is the California agriculture industry that depends on migrants to pick the crops. Those companies are owned by mostly big, fat republicans like him. The borders will never be closed Arnie, you twat!

11. They _did_ have to completely dub him in his first movie
Which is far enough in the past that yes, he should have little sympathy for such an excuse.

Ahem. "Hercules in New York". I'm really suprised that it hasn't been making the rounds again. I think I lost my poster :-(

14. I'm giving him too much credit, typical liberal.
But my weakkneed German makes me think that the two words, for closed and secured, are actually pretty close in German. He's still an arrogant jerk, though. I remember in the late '70s thinking how glad I was that he could never run for President, being foreign-born. I'm still glad.

Oh, help me; I'm actually laughing so hard I've doubled over... Yeah, your poor English... Oh, geez, I should send him a few bucks. I haven't laughed this hard at him since Kindergarten Cop...

on edit: Once I asked my father, another European immigrant, why he never ran for a local office; he is very active locally and is well known and influential. He blamed his non-native English skills, particularly his writing. If my father can be this honest, maybe Arnie might consider it as well...

Why is it that whenever a freep says something and it doesnt resonate with the people they "mispeak". He certainly didnt have any problems speaking in crappy roles for which he commanded millions of dollars. Plus, how long has he been in this country? Give me a break.

31. How long has he been in the US now?
20-30 years? If it had only been five years or even ten maybe I could accept that story about his English being bad. He knows damn well what he's saying and he just uses his bad English as an excuse when he sticks his foot in his mouth, which is often.

California's serial groper can start by pronouncing California the right way. That shouldn't be difficult for someone who's spent his entire life developing his muscles instead of his language skills.
