AP: Activists Ask Who Led Them From Bush Event
Activists Ask Who Led Them From Bush Event

By MELISSA TRUJILLO
The Associated Press
Friday, April 22, 2005; 7:18 PM

DENVER - A lawyer for three people removed from a President Bush town hall meeting - allegedly because of a "No More Blood for Oil" bumper sticker on their car - said Friday he is seeking the identity of the man who escorted the activists out, and plans to sue.

"We want to know who this person is, and who trained them, because we're going to sue" both the man and his trainers, said Dan Recht, a lawyer representing activists Alex Young, Karen Bauer and Leslie Weise.

The three belong to the organization Denver Progressives. The day after the president's March 21 town hall meeting, the three were told by the Secret Service they were singled out because they belong to the "No Blood for Oil" anti-war group. They believe the statement was a reference to their bumper sticker.

The White House has said the man who escorted the three out of the event was a volunteer, and that he probably feared the activists would disrupt the meeting.
Recht said he has made Freedom of Information Act requests to nine groups, including the Bush administration and the Secret Service, to try to determine who the man is. So far, he has received no information.

1. Hey...aren't the
FBI and/or Secret Service investigating this? If they are, why you know there will be a full, fair and open investigation with the "evil doers" appropriately punished...

(ok...I'm teasing...we know that there is no one in the administration that'll be held accountable for anything)
:puke:

2. I heard nothing about the FBI but...
I heard the SS flew some agents over there to investigate not throwing people out, but impersonating SS agents.

4. Soon they may find out about the Fargo 42 blacklist.
http://www.blogfordemocracy.org/archives/2005/02/a_reason_to_be.html

A Reason To Be Proud & Scared
"The folks over at Blog for America are reporting that 42 members of the Fargo, North Dakota community including a county commissioner, two high school students, several local university professors, and 33 Fargo Democracy for America meet-up participants were put on a "blacklist" that would have barred them from entry to a Bush Social Security Propaganda Event (Read: It starts with a list...) .

Now, my mother told me that when Nixon was president he had a blacklist of all his enemies, and while it concerned me at the time that my mother told me about it, I honestly felt that it wouldn't happen again. Well, it's happening again and history is repeating itself, and that scares me. It scares me because I don't want to be targeted by the government; I don't want to be put on a government list because of my political views.

But, in a way, I'm also proud because the fact the Bush and the Re-"Thug"-licans saw fit to put Democracy for America Meet-Up participants on a blacklist says to me that we must be doing something right. .."

6. I think Nixon's black list was mostly for people of means and former
friends.

He used the IRS to audit people and to keep them from getting government contracts. Very tame stuff by today's standards.

Don't think he ever kept any citizens out of an event. I actually worked with his advance team a couple of times (I was a local) for fund raisers. All the SS wanted was the SS #'s of the people who would be on stage or at the head table.

13. I believe the Secret Service will follow up on this
because people impersonating the presidents security detail would be considered a potential threat.

What they will do with their findings, I do not know. My guess is they will turn it over to Justice, where it will be buried.

He /They cannot de-value some Americans because of their views. Perhaps they need to read the US Constitution.

Whether we like it or not and whether the Bush* administration or his minions like it or not, he still works for all American citizens. They cannot pick and chose which Americans are worthy, and they cannot pick and chose which Americans they wish to omit. Bush* has no right to forbide dissenting taxpaying Americans from hearing him publically speak when he is on our time and our dime. To do so is so Un-American it boils my blood.

So what if someone shouts out a non-conforming question or if someone shouts a dissenting thought. Freedom of thought is still allowed. Bush* claims "they hate us for our freedoms", well, God-damn it! Bush* hates us for our freedoms too, and I'm sick of it!

Edit: Grammar

18. That's probably just what that attorney will do.
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 03:30 AM by Seabiscuit
And in the complaint identify "Doe 1" as the person (to be named in an amended complaint or amendment to the complaint) who escorted the plaintiffs out of the event. Then conduct discovery against Bush and the SS regarding the man's identity, and when they refuse to disclose the information, file a motion to compel and for sanctions - get a court order ordering the a-holes to identify the dude, then amend the complaint and serve it on him.

The lawyer may be setting Bush and the SS for a claim in the lawsuit that they also violated the Freedom Of Information Act by refusing to respond to his legitimate petition for the escorter's identity.

22. Now if that lady who put the finger in the chili, would have gotten
herself kicked out of one of brush's rallies then she could have really made a bundle. It wont be hard to prove brush used tax dollars to organize the event (hell, unless he forgets, he is a United States Official and as far as I know he wasn't on leave at those events.)I see big bucks here for a litigious person.
