Surprise: Christian BTK killer thanks church
PARK CITY, Kan. - The man accused of the BTK serial killings wrote a "very generic, very laid-back" letter to his former congregation, thanking church members for their support and asking for their prayers, the pastor said Friday.

Dennis Rader, 60, has been in custody since his Feb. 25 arrest, and is charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder for slayings from 1974 to 1991.

The Rev. Michael Clark of Christ Lutheran Church, who visits Rader in the county jail a couple times a week, said the letter had been posted on the church bulletin board for about a month; he took it down Friday.

"I posted it on the bulletin board where we have all the greetings, all the letters, all the expressions of concern for members of the congregation," Clark said. "I mentioned in a worship service that I had copies posted on the bulletin board. It's a very generic, very laid-back letter expressing his appreciation."

3. What is this..........
out of all bad comes some good???
Clark said his congregation's feelings for Rader since his arrest have been mixed, though he said the ordeal has brought some families who had been inactive back to the church.

That's supposed to be good? Why did they leave in the first place?

4. the title is actually
Accused BTK Serial Killer Thanks Church. i find it interesting that you chose to substitute the word accused with Christian. and no I'm not saying he's innocent, but it's just interesting to me why you would change the title around. almost like you are trying to start a religio-flame war or something.

5. It's one way to get married when you're a complete loser.
He's going to have women sending him bouquets and underwear attached to a marriage proposal. Trust me. Probably lots of good christian women in that pack.

9. What's wrong with that?
There is a strong theme in Christianity of offering succor to everyone, even the most heinous criminal. Speaking as an atheist, I have no criticism of that. If his church wants to minister to him, more power to them.

When writing about a criminal's religion, I think it is important to distinguish when it is a happenstance, from when it provides motive or reason for the crime. Dennis Rader is a criminal who happens to be Christian. His crimes were motivated by a psychopathology that has no connection to his religion, as far as I can tell.
