Jeb Bush Says New Pope Will Be Same Moral Leader as John Paul II
Well, if Jeb says so…

ROME (AP) - Pope Benedict XVI has the same ability to provide moral leadership in the world as the "spectacular" papacy of John Paul II, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday.

The Catholic convert, speaking for his brother President Bush, told reporters that the American leader's several personal encounters with John Paul was a recognition by the White House of "the need for a moral voice in world affairs."

"I know that my brother looks forward to developing the same kind of relationship with Pope Benedict XVI, and in doing so, I think, advance the cause of social justice, freedom and democracy around the world," Jeb Bush said.

Bush was in Rome to lead a U.S. delegation for Benedict's installation on Sunday in a ceremony at St. Peter's Basilica that will draw world leaders, royalty and representatives from various religious faiths. The delegation includes 21 members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

1. You Know What I Can't Stand?
Is hypocrites who secretly believe all Catholics are going to hell talking about how great a moral leader the Pope was, while ignoring what that Pope said about them.

2. The only thing worse than Jeb or Frist in 2008...
...is Jeb AND Frist in 2008.

No one's THOUGHT of that one yet. And if they have, I haven;t seen it posted on DU.

Imagine the two of them on the same ticket: "Bush-Frist 08."

:scared:

4. how about Jeb and Condi
the vp usually runs but Cheney is clearly not in the running, what other high profile member of the current administration do we have that is not a newbie (I am not counting Rummie). Barbara and Pappy Bush have made comments on how presidential Jeb is.

6. Jeb and Bernie Kerik. Jeb and John Bolton. Jeb and Mohammed Atta.
Why not. Let's just go down to New Orleans, go to the local Gris Gris emporium, raise Mohammed Atta from the dead, change the rules so he can be placed on the ticket, and sit back while the whole world goes up in flames.

Jeb ought to get a nice bait shop or something. Sell nightcrawlers, tell stories about the big one that got away to the customers. Develop a big beer belly, spit tobacco juice in a styrofoam cup, and give the world a frigging break from the fruit of Pappy 'n' Bar's Satanic loins.

JEEZIS.

10. "the need for a moral voice in world affairs."
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 12:48 PM by William Seger
Oh, there's a critical need for one, Jebbie, especially in the last few years, but where the hell is this "recognition by the White House" you're talking about? When did your hell-bent-for-invasion, fuck-the-poor brother ever listen to Pope John Paul's "moral voice?"

Problem is, Jebbie, to you wingnuts, "morals" just means your own obsession with what other people are doing with their genitalia.

caring that goes with it. They have co-opted the Left language.

13. Quote from bartcop on Jeb's faith
http://www.bartcop.com/1460.htm
''Four years ago was the culmination, if you recall. . . of a lot of anguish, a lot of tension that isn't my style. I didn't really appreciate all the satellite dishes out here. And the night
of the appearance of the Virgin of Guadalupe, on Dec. 12, was the day. That night the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the president. That was the more emotional day, Dec. 12."
--Jeb Bush, a devout Catholic, crediting the Virgin of Guadaloupe with interceding on George's behalf during the 2000 presidential election, "Governor recalls political miracle" (Miami Herald)

It's obvious that voting for Bush is the key to getting into Heaven.

16. I agree but this is why we need secular leaders
we need to judge election based on facts not miracles, I am not downplaying miracles, I just think that we need a separation between church and state. And I do not buy this explanation of the 2000 election. When I saw the machine default to GWB in Baltimore on November 2, 2004, it was no miracle.

27. Wow, that is really bizarre.
In most countries of the world (Canada anyway) a politician that claimed to have seen a miraculous manifestation would be hooted out of parliament. U.S. politics and culture (portions of them at least) has really gone strange.

for imposing the death penalty on scores of people???? and why aren't they saying that Catholic politicians who support the death penalty should be denied Communion? I guess some lives are more sacred than others.

President Bush is looking to Pope Benedict XVI to provide the same kind of moral leadership as the "spectacular" papacy of John Paul II, the president's brother said Saturday.

Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, leading the U.S. delegation to Sunday's installation of the new pontiff, told reporters that the president's three personal encounters with the late John Paul and his presence at the pope's funeral were a recognition by the White House of "the importance of the need for a moral voice in world affairs."

"I know that my brother looks forward to developing the same kind of relationship with Pope Benedict XVI, and in doing so, I think, advance the cause of social justice, freedom and democracy around the world," Jeb Bush said.
