Former President Ezer Weizman dies

Israel's 7th president and former Air Force commander dies at his Caesarea home Sunday evening; Weizman to be remembered as one of Israel's most colorful, outspoken leaders and one who never shied away from speaking his mind

"Former President Ezer Weizman has died at the age of 81. Weizman was hospitalized several times recently as a result of his deteriorating health.

The President's Office confirmed Weizman's death Sunday evening.

"The president announces with great sorrow and pain the death of the State of Israel's 7th president, Major-General (Ret.) Ezer Weizman," the official statement read. "The former president died this evening as the holiday ended at about 7:50 p.m. at his Caesarea home, with all his family by his side. May his memory be blessed."

Weizman was known as one of Israel's most impressive and colorful leaders and never hesitated to speak his mind. He was also the first president in the nation's history forced to quit over improper condcut."
