Jordanian kills sister over mobile phone photo (Honour killing)

AMMAN - A Jordanian man shot dead his divorced sister after seeing her photo on his friend’s camera-equipped mobile phone in the latest “honour” killing in the kingdom, hospital officials said on Monday.

The unidentified man shot the 31-year-old mother twice in the head Sunday night and then turned himself in to police saying he committed the murder to “cleanse his family’s honour.”

The incident is the fifth example of a so-called honour killing in Jordan this year. Those found guilty usually face sentences of a maximum of one year in jail under Jordanian law.

1. Our species has a grave sickness.
His friend took her picture and SHE dishonored the family?

Very sad.

2. Lovely
So her children have no mother now.

Can they at least have the cellphone picture to remember her by?

Why are women's lives so easy to take?

3. Fundamentalists of all the religions based on "The Book"
view women as children (at best) and property (at worst). A man's honor is more valuable than any of his property. The fundamentalists in this country have a similar view of women. It is sickening that anyone would tolerate this, much less actively promote it...

12. "The fundamentalists in this country have a similar view of women-"
and to take them backward about a century is very much in the plan! It will come as no surprise that soon uncompromising male and women judges and families will be attacked and murdered. Fear is a simple, inexpensive, weapon.
Right behind fair and competent judges will be the demise of all other educated power positions in the US for women. That can happen easily enough given the backward nature of the "average" female who still cannot think farther than a male's zipper because that is "the way of god"!
Warning to women: Choose to be a nurse, teacher, or for the best money a waitress, prostitute, or madam until you can afford to move to Canada or other real democracy!
I can almost hear the sounds of the new velcro closures on men's jeans,(velcro is noisier than zippers) being used as a training guide for women to submit! (A really very fearsome sound for any woman with an ounce of self respect!)

Sarcasm from the last century of oppression.

5. Yeah, I am pretty tired of hearing that one over and over again
on this board. There is no excuse for this sickness - none at all. These men are barbaric. How can you kill a member of your own family because of your goddamn EGO! And yes, it is all ego people. Family honor is bullshit.

6. Me too. Why isn't honor something to do with personal
integrity, excellence and responsible behavior?

8. I don't know about excusing murder as cultural, it appears that even
this publication refuses to do that, putting the word "honor" in quotation marks, and exposing the extreme injustice.

What is of concern is that this type of extreme misogyny and oppression be highlighted in this particular third world country, which exists prominently on the expansion maps of the current Administration and its Neoconservative totalitarian cohorts, thereby fostering and garnering unconsious support to a well-financed territory expansion campaign, which has led to illegal invasions in the past.

10. Amen!!! "Honor" my butt!!!!
This is just one more way for men to treat women as second class, no class or just plain property.

This kind of behavior wherever it is perpetrated is inexcusable.

If a woman had done this and claimed it was in the name of "Family Honor" she would be killed outright, no questions asked.

13. Money in SA oil
When one has millions $s invested in Islamic nations and/or their oil, one does not raise pigs!!!!!!
I just seems very odd that any Saudi prince would even set foot on US soil that likely at some time has had a porcine of some kind cross it!

11. That's barbaric.
What could she have done to deserve that?

Horrible to think this crap still happens in the 21st century.

There's 2 more kids that'll grow up without their mom.
