Conservative Christians Not Laughing at First Lady's Comedy Act

First Lady Laura Bush may have stolen the show with her surprise comedy routine at this weekend's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, but her jokes and one-liners have made her no new friends among conservative Christians. In an official statement, one 'pro-family' advocacy group warned that Mrs. Bush's jokes at the President's expense were in violation of the Biblical command that wives respect their husbands.

Some shocked by Mrs. Bush's reference to herself as a "desperate housewife"

By Russell D'Arby

WASHINGTON, DC—The First Lady may have stolen the show with her surprise comedy routine at the 91st White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, but not everyone appreciated her jokes and one-liners poking fun at President Bush. At least one organization of conservative Christians quickly lashed out at Mrs. Bush's performance, warning that her remarks at the President's expense were a public refutation of the Biblical command that wives should respect their husbands.

According to an official statement released over the weekend by the Coalition for Traditional Values, an organization that seeks a more flexible relationship between church and state, Mrs. Bush's jokes at her husband's expense amounted to a public emasculation of the President. Pastor Roy DeLong, the statement's author and chair of the group, warns that the First Lady's performance comes at a time when the Mr. Bush's "manliness is already under attack."

28. His manliness is under attack?
I wonder why that would happen?

Dodged Draft

Gay Hooker visits White House - 196 times

bu$h photographed countless times holding hands and kissing the prince of sand and oil.

bu$h asks Galveston if they still have their Gay and Lesbian event Splash Day.

We could go into the fact that he has never done a manly thing in his life but that would take up too much space.

3. Manliness under attack?
I'm confused. Wouldn't he need to actually *have* some manliness, before it could be attacked?

doesn't really watch Desparate Housewives. And don't forget that TV show gets it highest ratings in the Red States - hear they love it in Utah.

I'd picture their sex as being very quiet, mechanical, with the lights out, and with no mentioning it afterwards...all just to make a fetus.

23. My cousin had neighbors a long
time ago and that was EXACTLY the case, according to the wife, although I cannot imagine her even talking about sex. But, she said it was sex in the dark and with only enough clothes removed to do the act. They had been married for ?10 years and had never seen each other in the nude. It was evil, you know?

7. What were these "good Fristian women" doing at a male strip club?
Seems to me *'s manliness is irrelivent...although if his wife is at a strip club, he ain't delivering the goods.

But another question would be:

How do Jim/Jeff Gannon/Guckert's "visits" to the WH coincide with the ladies being away?

We're in the middle of a war...the economy blows...and now we get to re-live the trials and tribulations of Lenny Bruce through the nicotine-stained, Xanax-tinged stand-up comedy of first lady Pickles.

She's under ATTACK, man...She's tryin' to get a MESSAGE out to her PEOPLE, but the MAN is tryin' to tear her down...

17. I'm not laughing either!
"They" can laugh and smile while our children are being murdered the very seconds they laugh. I am speechless, I can't even think of any words to describe it. I've been posting this for 2 years on the DU. aWol on vacation, parties, fundraisers, laughing... You can see my posts and I feel I'm correct. Kerry should have made TV commercials pointing this out... and how Kerry would never take a vacation until the Iraq situation was under control.

How do you think a dead soldier's family feels when they see aWol up there laughing?

Why isn't there any "liberal press" asking this question to a dead soldier's family?

Why are American citizens on web forums the only ones asking these obvious questions?

20. I don't care WHY they turn against Shrub,
just that they do. In 2006, I believe, the the Republican vote will be split between hard-right candidates and more moderate ones, thus paving the way for a Dem re-takeover.

At least I hope so!

25. Wow.
"We at the Coalition for Traditional Values were appalled.

Proverbs puts it best: "a virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but she that maketh him ashamed is as rottenness in his bones." We would imagine that President Bush is feeling pretty rotten right now.

As you know, the family plays an essential role in Christianity, and the Bible is crystal clear about the structure of that family. "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife as Christ is head of the church, his body, of which he is the savior."

It was a few little JOKES for pete's sake? Don't these people have any sense of humor? Apparently not.

the 11th Commandment should have been, "Thou shalt have no sense of humor."

Also, they had 10 inauguration parties (while our troops went without), they have state dinners (mostly at their Crawford Ranch because they do fly back there every weekend on our dime no less.

One hardly hears about Iraq anymore on the news. They find one story, and stay on that for a week until they find another mind-numbing story that the American People could care less about.

Well, are you all getting ready for the second "Christian Crusades?" Because all weekend, all I heard was that the Bible states that the Antichrist's church will have no symbol, like the cross (Muslim), will reject all peace (Muslim), etc.

Then I heard that the next pope will call himself "Peter" which the Catholic Church considers blasphemy, because the Disciple "Peter" was considered the first pope. That he will cause cardinals to go against each other, Bishops to rise up against the church and Cardinals. (Prophesied by Saint Malchy 1100 years ago).

Needless to say, my nerves are on edge today.

27. Are you serious?
Women must respect their husbands, so they can't even good-naturedly poke fun at them? What a bunch of patriarchal bullshit. I don't even think I have words for how stupid this is. Men and women should both respect each other in a marriage, first of all, not just one or the other. And then, are they really upset about some stupid jokes? You've got to be kidding me. They're JOKES people! JOKES!

31. WOW! I just found out this is a scam!
OK, it sounded over the top to me for a Christian organization. I started searching the internet for this organization - couldn't find a thing. I went back and looked at the letterhead on Swiftreport and called the phone number. The woman there said it was a sham press release and they are in the process of getting to the bottom of it. She said they were using names similar to their directors, etc. but it is a false press release.
