Iraq resolving Chalabi issue with Jordan
Amman, Jordan, May. 8 (UPI) -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zibari said Sunday his country was seeking to resolve Jordan's legal issue with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Chalabi.

Zibari told reporters in Amman that Chalabi was "an elected leader in the Iraqi government, so we hope to resolve this issue, but without embarrassing Jordan or Iraq."

In 1992, Jordan's State Security Court sentenced Chalabi in absentia to 22 years for embezzling $200 million as chairman of the local Petra Bank that he co-established in the early 1980s.

Chalabi has denied his involvement and accused influential Jordanians of having framed him to hurt the bank, which eventually collapsed after he fled the kingdom.

1. Chalabi's an "elected leader"?
I'm sure that would come as a huge surprise to . . . well, just about everyone on the planet. Chalabi was appointed to his position as Deputy Prime Minister in Charge of His Good Friend George's Oil.

What a load of nonsense, published for your reading pleasure by the Washington Times.

2. perhaps Bush will write Jordan a check for the embezzled $
After all, why shouldn't Americans
mortgage their future in the call to aid
the Satan Chalabi?

5. Riverbend's opinion of Chalabi.

This guy is a real peach. He is the head of the Iraqi National Congress and heavily backed by the Pentagon. He was a banker who embezzled millions from the Petra Bank in Jordan. My favorite part of his life story is how he escaped from Jordan in the trunk of a car… a modern-day Cleopatra, if you will. When asked if he thinks the war on Iraq was justified, even if WMD aren’t found, he immediately (and rather huffily) replies, “Of course- *I* wouldn’t be sitting here in Iraq if it weren’t for the war…” As if he’s God’s gift to humanity. He’s actually America’s gift to the Iraqi people- the crowning glory of the war, chaos and occupation: the looter of all looters.
