German neo-Nazi march stopped on WW2 anniversary (By leftists)
http://www.swissinfo.org/sen/swissinfo.html?siteSect=143&sid=5763232&cKey=1115589017000

BERLIN (Reuters) - A neo-Nazi march in Berlin was stopped by thousands of anti-fascist demonstrators on Sunday after a tense standoff that overshadowed Germany's ceremonies marking the end of World War Two in Europe 60 years ago.

Berlin police said 6,000 demonstrators opposed to the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD) crowded into streets around Alexanderplatz square where 3,300 right-wing extremists gathered to protest what they called a German "cult of guilt".

Eager to prevent the violence that flares when leftists try to stop far-right marches, authorities ordered the NPD to stay at Alexanderplatz behind a buffer zone of barricades and police. Two hours later the NPD decided to abandon the march.

Anti-Nazi demonstrators, many sitting on streets in front of idled water canon, cheered when police announced on loudspeakers that the march was cancelled.

If us leftists would have had the guts to confront the fascists outside Al Gore's residence and in Florida in 2000 think how different things might have been today. Let this be a lesson to us.

1. "A neo-Nazi march in Berlin was stopped by thousands of anti-fascist
demonstrators..."

"when leftists try to stop far-right marches"

"Anti-Nazi demonstrators"

Wow...did someone stop a Bush-Cheney rally in Germany?

3. We need to contact the Leftists in Germany
They could teach the Liberals here in the United States a thing or two about standing up to Fascists.

21. We are already here
:hi:
But I don't see Bush being in the same league as the filth we fought on Sunday. More like our own christian conservatives - on steroids.

5. Two arrested at Holocaust commemoration marred by protests (Boston)
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2005/05/08/two_arrested_at_holocaust_commemoration_marred_by_protests/

Ten to 15 members of the Arkansas-based White Revolution arrived in downtown Boston about an hour after the start of the event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Nazi concentration camps and the 10th anniversary of the New England Holocaust Memorial in Boston.

The group was escorted by hundreds of police officers on foot, motorcycle and horseback, to a holding area across from the event. The officers, many in riot gear, formed a barricade between the protesters and about 100 people who angrily shouted at them to leave Boston.

"Today of all days, to have white supremacists come here from Arkansas, is most disappointing, disgusting, and I wish they'd go back home where the came from and bury themselves under the rocks that they crawled out from," said Gov. Mitt Romney, who attended the Faneuil Hall event.

At one point, the crowd opposing the white supremacists surged forward, causing police to use their batons to keep them at bay.

Take 'em in the back room and introduce them to Mr. Plunger.

I don't want to know about it, however.

14. I disagree.
Those bigots, foul though they may be, had just as much right to be there as you have to protest at a Bush photo-op.

The true test of a real liberal is when you respect the rights of someone whose entire outlook on life is the complete antithesis of your own, even when you know they'd never extend the same courtesy to you if the situation were reversed. Some might see it as being weak, but it's actually our greatest weapon; it's how we prove we're better than they are.

15. Well, that's certainly strong support for the First Amendment. . .
What's your take on the Patriot Act? Which right that it strips do you feel most comfortable without? . . . Got any special moments from Abu Ghraib you'd care to share?

Don't mean to be flip, but support of our Rights is best expressed when we sustain them for those we most oppose.

8. They showed one of these redneck fuckers on the news
carrying a sign: "Six Million Lies"

Most of the white supremacists were late teens/early 20s, with the exception of two.

10. I don't know WHY they chose Boston. They were in Somerville yesterday
and the police confined them to the very back of the high school where they rallied. They couldn't even hear themselves over the 100+ protesters who were screaming at them to go back to bumfuck Arkansas.

20. The singular joy of the 1st Amendment.
It allows any American to show everyone else what an incredible asshole he or she is. Obscene ideologies quickly wither. Conversely, there's no better way to grant such ideas legitimacy than by supressing them.
