(Washington Times) Cartoonist says he didn’t want to offend Pakistan
WASHINGTON, May 9: The Washington Times cartoonist who made the derogatory cartoon that caused uproar in Pakistan said on Monday he never intended to offend the Pakistani nation. “It’s a cultural gap, a cultural misunderstanding that caused the uproar,” said Bill Garner while talking to Dawn.

<SNIP>

“The symbol to me was that of friendship … there’s a saying in English that a dog is the man’s best friend,” said Mr Garner while explaining why he used a dog to depict Pakistan’s role in the war against terror.

3. Pakistan wants inquiry into US daily's "derogatory cartoon"

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2005-05/09/content_2937505.htm

Pakistan Monday renewed condemnation to what it called the publication of a "highly derogatory cartoon" about Pakistan in a US daily and demanded an inquiry to know the motives behind the move.

"Pakistan has asked for an inquiry to be conducted and the US administration has also expressed its displeasure over its publication and they are issuing an advisory to this effect," Foreign Office spokesman Jalil Abbas Jilani told a weekly press briefing in Islamabad.

"Pakistan has condemned the publication of this cartoon in strongest possible term. We have also asked for an inquiry to be conducted because this cartoon, the cartoonist and those who allowed the publication have not done any service to the forces of moderation," Jilani said.

"They have committed a kind of insult not only to the American administration but also to the American public," the spokesman noted.

4. I love this apologia from the Washington Times editorial board
"Other Pakistani politicians have demanded an apology from no less than the president of the United States. The suggestion that any American newspaper speaks for the government or a president betrays a profound ignorance of how America works."

http://washingtontimes.com/op-ed/20050510-120123-3387r.htm

Ha ha ha ha!

The only spectacle funnier than having millions of Pakistanis irate at the Washington Times is Rev. Moon's slimeballs pretending to be an independent press.

Perhaps, however, Pakistanis better understand the function of the lapdog US media than do Americans.

What's more, the same editorial pays homage to Kipling's "eloquence." Kipling, of course, celebrated in word and deed the brutal British colonial occupation of what is present-day Pakistan. Non-westerners, he famously wrote, were "lesser breeds."

Yes, people of Pakistan. You've got these fuckers figured out.
