Anchor Baker brags about Gannon in blog
Wednesday, May 11, 2005

By Rob Owen, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Is Scott Baker an unbiased journalism teacher or, as one critic calls him, "a conservative mole"?

WTAE news anchor Scott Baker kicked off a storm in the blogosphere Monday when he made a post to politician Arianna Huffington's new blog site with the headline "I'm the Guy Who Taught Jeff Gannon Everything He Knows About Journalism."

Philadelphia Daily News senior writer William Bunch brought Baker's post to light on his own blog, calling Baker "a conservative mole in the mainstream media, that he's actively helping a Karl Rove acolyte to train new right-wing journalists, and that one of his 'star pupils' is none other than the notorious 'Jeff Gannon,' the gay-hooker-turned-bogus-pro-GOP journalist."

.....

"One of the top-rated stations in the No. 2 city in a battleground state, a state that many thought that summer would decide the presidential election, sends as its reporter to cover Kerry at the DNC a man who also trains conservative journalists at a school run by one of Karl Rove's best friends," Bunch writes. "And then when he gets there, he doesn't cover what the Democrats have to say, but he does go big with a confrontation that was potentially embarassing (tho' we kind of liked it) to the wife of the party's presidential candidate."

.....

Yesterday Gannon distanced himself from Baker at his Web site, www.jeffgannon.com, writing, "With all due respect to Mr. Baker, what I learned about journalism was gained from having been the first editor of my high school newspaper and sports editor of my college weekly. Somehow these facts escape those who are more interested in looking at headless photographs and spinning conspiracy theories."

7. Easy enough for the bloggers
who have been covering this to check whether he was an editor at either school.

having been the first editor of my high school newspaper and sports editor of my college weekly."

If that ain't enough to get you access to the president of the U.S. then WTF is, I ask ya?!

Was he not saying that, in essence, he taught him nothing cause it was a lame two day school of nothingness?

9. Has it been found out for sure
Gannons military experience? I read someplace that there was no record found of him as a marine ever!
Why are the Wolf Blitzers/Russerts of the world not going after him for lying about military service??? Saying you were a marine seems to be the same thing as saying you were a navy seal (to me it seems the same)If you really werent, then you are a LIAR.

12. I suspected that Scott Baker was a Rove shill
and this confirms it. Baker even has the typical Republican Brill Cream hair style a la Rick man on dog Santorum and Bill Frist, and he has the morals to match. He dumped his wife and kids if I recall correctly to marry a younger beauty queen. UGH!

I will call WTAE to let them know I will be boycotting ALL of their programing if they continue to employ one of Karl Rove's thugs.

17. BTW Lynn Cullen worked at same station as Baker
Edited on Wed May-11-05 11:29 PM by RamboLiberal
Lynn's a liberal talk host on WPTT 1360 AM Pittsburgh - but she used to work at WTAE radio and before that WTAE TV. She knows Baker. Confirmed today what most of us suspected that he's conservative.

She said today she's always felt Baker would run for office - so PA don't be surprised if this guy uses his fame to run for a Repuke seat in Congress.

And like a typical Repuke he was married to a conservative Christian woman(Ruth Ann who had a part time radio gig and now writes columns for newspaper that had this story) and they had kids. He left them for former Miss America he met at Blackwell's institute.

BTW, his ex has a good column on a local school district's Texas type football stadium excesses today.

13. So.. I worked on my jr. high paper.. Can I get a day pass, too?
I'm sorry.. the funniest part of this is Gannon/Guckert claiming his experience working on the high school paper as his journalism training. (That's probably a lie, as well).

15. Gannon admits that what he learned about journalism was being an editor
of a HS newspaper and a sports editor of a college weekly? We are supposed to be impressed by that? He's even a bigger idiot than I thought.

16. I got my issue of Vanity Fair today and read his interview
and all I can saw is - his story just doesn't ring true to me. Something is very wrong with this picture. Yes, he's a pathetic self-promoter, but I still say he's hiding something big.

Remember, he said he was "hiding in plain sight"!
