North Korea proposes talks with South Korea

SEOUL - North Korea on Saturday proposed the resumption of inter-Korean dialogue, which has been suspended for nearly a year, calling for a working-level contact early next week in the North Korean border town of Kaesong, Pyongyang said.

The proposal was contained in a message sent by North Korea’s chief delegate to the inter-Korean high-level talks, Senior Councillor of the Cabinet Kwon Ho Ung, to his South Korean counterpart Unification Minister Chung Dong-Young.

“We have the pleasure to notify you that we will send three delegates and three suite members to Kaesong from May 16 to 17 for the working-level talks,” Kwon was quoted as saying in the message.

Kwon said the move was “prompted by the desire to put the inter-Korean relations on a normal track in the idea of by our nation itself at an early date,” according to Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency.

3. Barring the complete collapse of modern Capitalism...
Barring the complete collapse of modern "Capitalism", or the current system in place in North Korea, the peaceful reunification of the peninsula is impossible. Each seeks destruction of the other. It is simple as that. What you have to keep in mind is when either side starts talking about reunification, they are asking the other side "Are you ready to surrender yet?". Technically, they are still at war.

i don't trust that anything other than fullscale invasion of S. Korea by N. Korea...will happen in this year..

it's nice to see they will talk them thru the coup however.....

the US will not have enough naval ships in the china see to prevent it...

4. Remember RumsFailed, right before we marched
into Iraq. He said, "we can fight several wars at the same time".

Really, now. Call me skeptical....

7. Bad timing for S. Korea...the US is pulling....
out all our troops. Unless, the South bonds with the North in order to help kick our butt. That is a thought, we are a little short on love coming from any other countries, lately.:scared:

9. REALLY? This is news.. we have no troops there?
I thought we were down to 27,500 troops on S. Korea, if it's true we are down to nothing that's really a very bad sign.

N. Korea will be able to literally walk into s. korea without a fight.
we will have no air support if not enough navy ships in area... which I suspect as most are in mideast now....(as Bush thinks we can fight wars remotely from US and thru air strikes, yeah right)

The Base closings Creating 50Bn is to sustain another 6 months or so for Iraq war, much less how broke we are to go into Iran which we will do by leaning on Isreal for money and fighting support because we are financially and manpower depleted.....

wow... this is the worst of all possible strategic scenarios.. we just lost the entire far east ladies in gentleman to the dumbest of strategic moves by Rumsfailed....

11. South Koreans...
South Koreans are armed to the teeth, with latest US technology and arms. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a nuclear arsenal in place. Either under direct control of US military or under South Korean control but with US knowing about it.
