Bush Cites Parts of Arms Report to Justify U.S. Action in Iraq
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/03/politics/03CND-PREX.html?8br

Oct. 3 — President Bush made a pointed defense today of his decision to make a pre-emptive strike against Iraq, a day after the government's chief weapons inspector reported that his team had failed to find illegal weapons in Iraq in its three-month search.

"Let me tell you what the report said," Mr. Bush remarked during a speech in Milwaukee. "It states that Saddam Hussein's regime had a clandestine network of biological laboratories. They had a live strain of deadly agent called botulinum; that he had sophisticated concealment efforts — in other words, he's hiding his programs; that he had advanced design work done on prohibited long-range missiles."

"The fact they have not found weapons obviously does not mean weapons were not there," he (Brit Foreign Minister Jack Straw) said in a BBC radio interview.

"This interim progress report is not final," Mr. Bush noted. "Extensive work remains to be done on his biological, chemical and nuclear programs."

Mr. Bush made the same points this morning on the South Lawn of the White House, as he was preparing to leave for fund-raising appearances in the Middle West.

"...that he had advanced design work done on prohibited long-range missiles."

Quite a long way from "launching in 45 minutes", innit? "Did we say 'minutes'? We meant 'months'."

8. They even had caches of dihydrogen monoxide.
And that can't be natural, because it is rare in many parts of the Iraqi desert.

14. But not reports from "beaurocrats"
They can have mountains of reports as long as they agree with W&Co. (was there any doubt that they would) but if it is a GAO or CBO report that points out the obvious flaws in their "philosophy" W demeans it as coming from "beaurocrats".

18. FOX (forgive me) is saying ~"It depends on who you ask"
They are now trying to portray the FACT that no WMD have been found is a partisan political debate. :eyes:

Like I said in another thread they are doing a push-pull thing. They continue to stay on message, for whatever the logic behind it, and in each article some source recants it. So Fox and the like (to a watered dwon level all media) gets the quote that WE WERE RIGHT! but sources from the administration also say it is wrong, it's there out.

17. Dumbya
What a moron. I hope whoever takes his place after the election has their Justice Department look into everything he did while in office, from the energy task force to Iraq and everything in between.

And then throws him in prison.

19. One friggin vial of botulism bacteria
We grew botulism bacterial cultures my sophmore year in college, in my microbiology class!! And, get this, we did it in a BIOLOGICAL LAB!!! We even had such horrifying equipment as microscopes and bunsen burners. WTF, am I and my alma matar terrorists now? Seriously, one vial containing maybe 5 ml of bacterial culture is grounds for bombing Iraq? You could find a hell of a lot more lethal stuff trusted in the hands of undergrad bio and chem students throughout the US. What I want to know is where the DELIVERY SYSTEMS for it are! Where are the warheads and toxin-spraying drones? You don't throw vials of botulism toxin like hand grenades, for goodness sake!
