Celebrities urge 'no' vote on recall

Dozens of Hollywood big-shots took out a full-page ad Friday in the trade newspaper Variety urging Californians to vote "No" on the effort to recall Gov. Gray Davis.

The high-profile names in the ad include Amy Pascal, chairman of Sony's Columbia Pictures, which distributed the Schwarzenegger films "The 6th Day" and "Last Action Hero"; and Ron Meyer, president and chief operating officer of Vivendi Universal Entertainment, which distributed Schwarzenegger's "End of Days" and "Junior."

but I wanted to highlight on the people who worked directly with him producing and distributing his films.

Celebrities include: Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Glover, Barbra Streisand, Larry David, Cybill Shepherd, James Cromwell, Stacy Keach, Rob Reiner and Pierce Brosnan, who appeared with Davis at a bill-signing ceremony on Thursday.

problem when anybody endorses someone else, so long as they say something intelligent. I just think it is stupid to think Ted Nugent, or Barbara Streisand, has the intelligence and knowledge to tell me how to vote. It is a problem when either side does it for me because they are saying I can't look at the issues and make up my own mind.

more than pure stupidity causes people to let others tell them how to think and what to vote for. I saw a study once that showed that people who won elections often did so on "Likability" more than any other factor. What that person stood for, or what they had to say, had little or nothing to to with their electability. It was pure charisma. Depressing.

Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger has apologized for his behavior toward women, perhaps he wouldn't mind if footage of his alleged groping of a British broadcaster against her will was released.

So far, Carlton Television in London is refusing to show a tape of a December 2000 show, "Celebrity," in which Schwarzenegger grabbed host Melanie Sykes at the waist. Sykes said that when she pushed the bodybuilder away and said, "Get your hands of me - I'm scared," he responded by grabbing her breasts.

"Apparently, there's a problem with a batch of tapes, and the Melanie Sykes thing is one," Carlton spokesman Murray Buesst told our Spencer Morgan.

Sean Walsh, chief spokesman for the California gubernatorial candidate, told us: "I don't even know that these alleged incidents took place."

Who's Who
This past week was like no other in my twenty years of campaigning with my husband.

What made last week extraordinary was the number of national political leaders who campaigned with us to defeat the recall: Former President Clinton, Former Vice President Al Gore, Reverend Jesse Jackson, presidential candidates, Senator John Kery, Senator Bob Graham and Senator John Edwards (Gov. Dean was with my husband the week before).

Each brought their unique prospective, but they were all in agreement that it was important to defeat this recall.

I could end here and most people would agree that we had a very successful week, but there is more. With little fanfare four prominent actor supported our effort by attending a campaign event on Thursday: Warren Beatty, Annete Benning, Jack Nicholson and Bruce Willis.
