U.S. Wants Fair Elections in Azerbaijan

WASHINGTON -- The United States wants to see honest elections Oct. 15 in the Central Asian republic Azerbaijan, the State Department said Friday.

The department spokesman, Richard Boucher, also said ailing President Geidar Aliev's decision to withdraw his candidacy in support of his son, Prime Minister Ilham Aliev, "is an internal matter for Azerbaijan."

Asked if the United States had a problem with a son succeeding his father, Boucher said, "We don't have a problem with the voters of Azerbaijan deciding who they want to vote for." Should Ilham Aliev succeed his father, it would be the first family succession in any of the republics of the former Soviet Union.

Boucher said it was important to the United States that Azerbaijan's elections "meet the standards of the Organization for Cooperation and Security in Europe. We've long made that clear and worked toward that end."

2. Boucher is slime!
Heritage Foundation/AEI shill. 'Asked if the United States had a problem with a son succeeding his father,' PFITZ59 says, "Fuck yeah! Look at the troubles we're having with our own unelected son-of-a-Bush*!" I say DOWN WITH DYNASTIES, NEPOTISM, and ARISTOCRACY!

6. I could go for a fair election here in the US
Remember the good ol' days when the guy with the most votes won?

With the Republican-controlled company Diebold installing touch-screen voting systems across the country, I get the feeling we may have seen our final fair election.

...the beginning of a sales pitch for a handy-dandy voting machine that gives the semblance of fairness and the results you want.
