Corporate Greed Wins Again - CEPHALON
Edited on Sun May-15-05 08:17 PM by MaryBear
CEPHALON announced the end of its clinical trial of CEP1347, a promising new treatment that may slow or stop the progression of Parkinson's Disease. It did so in a very unkind and unprofessional manner by issuing a press release, without contacting anyone involved.

Patients signed a contract and participated faithfully in the trial for 2 years. It is outrageous that they should learn about the cancellation in such a way.

Not only did Cephalon not tell the participants, they did not inform their study centers. Some centers learned the news from their participants. Nor did they inform the Institute for Neurodegenerative Disorders (IND) which does the brain scans connected with the study.

Participants are in limbo with no decision on what to do: most study doctors are out of town at a conference about CEP1347 and will not be able to speak with patients for days.

When companies treat their trial participants in this way it may lead to fewer people volunteering for clinical trials
