White House Staff Given Until Tuesday to Turn in CIA Leak Information
http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGA9OW3QCLD.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - From top advisers to junior staff, nearly 2,000 White House employees were ordered to come forward by Tuesday with any documents that might help the criminal investigation into the leak of an undercover CIA officer's identity.

A memo Friday cautioned the staff not to seek advice from President Bush's attorneys. The White House counsel's office works solely for the president in his official capacity and is not a private attorney for anyone, the memo warned, meaning that staff members should hire their own lawyers if they think they need counsel.

Investigators are trying to determine who leaked the identity of Valerie Plame, a CIA operations officer who has served overseas. She is married to former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who publicly accused the Bush administration of manipulating intelligence to exaggerate the threat from Iraq.

Plame's identity was revealed in a July 14 column by syndicated columnist Robert Novak, who said he got the information from two senior administration officials. The name was later reported by Newsday in a story by Timothy M. Phelps, Washington bureau chief for the Long Island, N.Y., newspaper, and Knut Royce, a staff writer for the paper.

4. Turn them over?????
WTF? In an investigation of this nature, the hard drives should all have been impounded and in custody immediately. But of course, this is not the way it works in the Nixon/Bush administration.

17. "I've seen this movie before" WH is taking (gulp)Saddam-like approach
We will see in the coming months much foot dragging and diflections.

This "all pertinent documents" is very comparable to Saddam's 12,000 page document. Drown the investigators in a sea of paperwork, this will give them time to spin it to the public and hopefully diminish interest in it. We have to keep the pressure on to keep the pressure on.

This also is a means to sell to the public that the White House is fully cooperating AND they are trying to keep the FBI and Justice OUT of the actual White House . The "Hey we gave you everything pertinent!" spin is coming.

The obvious problem with that is that any investigation has to determine for themselves what is pertinent and to do that the have to have access to the actual site. Rove is going to get the punditriat to paint the FBI (especially) as overzealous and on a witchhunt.

I thought about this last night when I saw how earnestly Fox was stressing the STRONG order coming from W. It's total BS but I think that is what they are trying to do.

19. An Important Question **HELP NEEDED ON THIS**
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 11:00 AM by ByeDick
Has anybody heard anything about any evidence being protected and or provided by Cheney's office?

The vice resident's office is not a part of the White House, nor is it "administered" by the "administration."

Has anyone come up with any info or articles about the status of what's going down in Cheney's office in relation to the investigation?
