Pakistan Test-Fires Nuclear-Ready Missile
Pakistan Test-Fires Nuclear-Ready Missile
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big News Network.com Saturday 4th October, 2003

Pakistan test-fired a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface missile Friday, beginning a new series of tests, the Financial Times reported.

The missile, known as Hatf-III or Ghaznavi, has a range of 180 miles, making it capable of hitting targets inside neighboring India.

Pakistan will maintain the pace of its own missile development program and conduct tests as per its technical needs, the Pakistan army said in a statement. It was not divulged how many more tests were planned in the current series.

The tests came a day after Richard Armitage, the U.S. deputy secretary of state, delayed a planned visit to Pakistan, citing scheduling reasons.

1. Are Pakistan's Nukes Safe?
Barely do we hear about the Pakistan nuclear program...considering its in a country that is an erstwhile "ally" and is the current home of bin Laden and Al Queda.

I keep reading reports of problems in the Pakistani military and the games Musharaf has been playing to keep power and the Islamists in his own military and regime in check.

Has this cabal in Washington ever issued any statement on Pakistan's nuclear program? Also, didn't Pakistan get most of the technology for those missiles from the North Koreans?

Just questions since I see so little about this out there.

Thanks

3. ME too!
There are now so many US corporations in India-
I would think that they would be likely to become targets.
This whole situation is NOT good, not good at all.
I swear, the end of the world seems closer every day.
If one of those countries start lobbing off nukes,
all hell is going to break loose.

4. We had a military embargo going
...against Pakistan based upon their proliferation of such weapons. But due to the exigencies of the "war on terror", we decided to reopen military sales and assistance, to the sponsor of the Taliban, Al Qaeda and the Kashmir terrorists. HYPOCRISY.

This must be one of those "democracies" that doesn't attack its neighbors. Oh, no its one of those military juntas we like to support no matter what criminal activity they are sponsoring.

5. Selective "Friends"
If I remember, Clinton came down hard on Pakistan after their tests of '98...and manchild couldn't even find Pakistan on the map, lest know who was in charge.

Honestly, is Musharaf in charge? I saw him doing the Fireplace photo op and little else was said or shown of him. I've seen posts here and other places that say he's really not in control of whats going on in his government; especially in the Western areas of the country...that both are now the base of Al Queda, the Kashmir fighters, supposedly Chechens and who knows who else...as well as Pakistan's nuclear facilities being in those remote regions. Just too loosey/goosey for me.

Also, I remember a State Department condemnation of Pakistan for their missile program...either they were getting Silkworms from North Korea or China or a combination of the two. Again, that's why I was hoping someone here had more reliable info.

A nuclear war between India and Pakistan is the most probable flashpoint of anywhere in the world...Korea included, and the annimosity between India and Pakistan continue to build.

Now if there was a case for "pre-emption" (and I consider this a violation of International law) wouldn't the threat of Pakistani nukes falling in "terrorist" hands worthy of the Chickenhawk's attention? I won't even dare go into the Israeli arsenal.

6. Pakistani nuclear scientist
A.K. Khan is now known to be a member of LeT (Lashkar -e- Tayba) - a terrorist group known for its anti-Indian and anti-American activities.

The pakistani nukes are already in the hands of the fundamentalists...

things dont look good.
