LA Times - Republican Eyes Office of San Diego Mayor

This just off the wire... Finally more of a "bad guy" joins the special election race for San Diego mayor. Hope he splits the Rethug vote with Sanders. Gotta make sure he gets shut out of the runoff, if not voted out with a Donna Frye majority to start with!

Republican Eyes Office of San Diego Mayor
By ELLIOT SPAGAT, Associated Press Writer

SAN DIEGO -- A wealthy Republican businessman on Thursday entered the race for mayor of scandal-plagued San Diego, joining a field that includes a maverick councilwoman and a former police chief.

A July 26 special election is being held to replace Mayor Dick Murphy, who resigned amid a pension-fund scandal and federal investigations of City Hall.

Steve Francis announced his candidacy by saying he was "ashamed, embarrassed and angry" at the city's leaders. "If you ran a business this way, you would be in jail," he said.

The 50-year-old Francis, executive chairman of a hospital staffing company, has already contributed $500,000 to his campaign, according to an e-mail sent to his supporters.
