Purported 'Star Wars' copies circulate over Internet
http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/business/technology/11689153.htm

WASHINGTON (AP) - Videos purported to be illegal copies of the final ``Star Wars'' movie circulated across parts of the Internet on Thursday, the same day the film opened in U.S. theaters.

Congestion from the crush of computer users trying to obtain copies of the film, ``Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith,'' meant downloads were taking more than 40 hours even over high-speed Internet connections. It was therefore impossible to verify immediately that the movie actually was circulating or what the copies looked like.

The head of the Motion Picture Association of America, Dan Glickman, said reports that the film was available for free online was the latest example of how rampant Internet piracy was costly to Hollywood...

...Rove OP?

The copy out there is a workprint and was out there yesterday -- before the film opened. It even still has the SMPTE clock running at the top of the screen, so the MPAA should first look to their own studios if they want to combat copyright infringement.

3. It's not really costly to Hollywood
They all still make millions. Shit, the buzz the computer crowd generates about these movies is enough free advertising to justify the piracy of copies by those very same people. George Lucas ain't broke, neither is Ewan McGregor, Samuel L., Yoda, etc. :) Tell them, and the record companies too, to fuck off!

8. Don't they know anything about downloading?
"It was therefore impossible to verify immediately that the movie actually was circulating or what the copies looked like" don't they know that you can preview films that you download before the whole download is finished. Use Video Lan to preview downloads or use it as a media player, it has most of the codex needed and is a lot lighter on your CPU than windows media player.
I'm not advertising for them but it is one of the easiest and best media players and it's totally free and open source.
get it here http://www.videolan.org/
