Missing Florida girl found buried alive in landfill

(CNN) -- Police found an 8-year-old Florida girl buried alive in an abandoned landfill Sunday morning, hours after she was reported abducted, according to officials in Lake Worth.

Searchers found the girl inside a yellow recycling bin which was inside a 30-foot dumpster.

"There was a yellow recycling bin and the lid was flipped open," said Lake Worth Police Sgt. Mike Hall. "And inside the dumpster was a pile of rocks, boulders. And you could see a hand in there."

The girl had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, Police Chief William Smith said.

I'm very happy they found this little girl, but I have to ask:
What is it with Florida and abducted, missing or murdered children? Is there something in the water, being in the sun too long or possibly Jeb Bush's "fine leadership"? :sarcasm:

Carl Hiaasen said that if you took the United States, tipped it on end, the sludge from every other State would funnel down to Florida, and I believe it. Carl is without a doubt the best writer on the condition we know as, Florida. The thing is, his crazy, outrageous stories most often follow fact, not fiction.

I lived in Florida for 2 years, and I sold everything at a rather large loss just to get the hell out of there. I couldn't get out of Florida fast enough. I hated it, hated it, hated it and I'll never return.

I don't support the death penalty and I'm opposed to torture, but I'll confess that I think sick mofos that do this to any child should have to be imprisoned for life and raped and beaten every day....I know that is wrong, but if there is anything that makes me crazy, its this kind of thing being done to children....to do this to innoncent children is evil at its deepest core level....Sorry I have a hard time to feel anything b but wanting these people to live in hell and suffer the way they made these sweet children suffer...

I'm grateful this little girl is alive...but imagine the trauma and horror she survived but will have to live with the rest of her life...assuming she ever fully can recover....

The story indicates that this happened at 4am this morning. It has been solved within 12 hours and been reported now. Sounds to me like the cops did a great job,found the girl alive and got the guy, maybe they kept the media out of it so they could do just that.

22. It's the fact that the media usually only swarms stories of white people.

Out of all the dozens of abduction/disappearence stories given mass attention this year, this in only the second one to have a non-white victim. Terri Schiavo got a media circus, but hospitals in Texas have pulled the plug on at least two young black children who were actually alive without a blip of national coverage. That's why some refer to the media coverage of these things as racist, because it seems that the media cherry-picks who matters and who doesn't. It's more than just that, though, because the media also shows other preferences--young female victims, outside kidnappers, etc.. It's tabloidism at its worst, trying to sensationalize the news and draw a certain type of viewers who'll hang on every word of the 'big story,' which is all it really is.

8. No, there's something in the state

and it's called religious fundamentalists. They've managed to infest several communities in the panhandle and one in the central part of the state. One thing that distinguishes fundamentalists' core values is a deep loathing of anything female. you would know that Lake Worth is probably 90% Democratic - a very Democratic town in a very Democratic part of the state. It's a small town with a large minority population - with a mix of poor, lower middle class, and a few middle class white Americans, black Americans, Haitians, Guatemalans, and quite an eclectic mixture of others. Blaming this sort of thing on fundamentalist, Floridians, and even Republicans just isn't going to cut it.

She is a beautiful little girl and I hope she has no permanent damage from this, physical or mental.

The police said they suspected him very quickly as his story was a bit strange.
