Tancredo (R) CO - Wants to Abolish Black, Hispanic, Asian Caucuses
Rush Limbaugh wasn't the only one stirring racial fires last week. U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo made his move 24 hours earlier, but his proposal got buried in the Limbaugh fallout.

What the Colorado Republican did was propose the abolition of the three race-based caucuses in Congress.

"I find it somewhat hypocritical that this Congress continues to extol the virtues of a color-blind society while officially sanctioning caucuses that are based solely on race," he said in a letter to Rep. Bob Ney, chairman of the House Administration Committee.

Tancredo urged a rule change that would abolish the Black, Hispanic and Asian-Pacific caucuses before the next session begins in January, but the early odds indicate his chances are zero.

I can't figure out if Tancredo really does hate minorites so much or he craves the media attention.

1. Campaign point
The sheer quantity of racism spewing from the Texas Fascist Party lately suggests that they've made a strategic decision to court additional support from the white supremecists.

2. Trancredo
has spoken weekly during after hours speeches about the evils of illegal immigrants.

I'd say he's pretty much a hater.

4. "a color-blind society"?? Does he not understand rainbows?
This hogwash about "a color-blind society" being some aspiration is, IMHO, pure elitist hypocrisy. I regard the broad diversity of human experience, culture, physiognomy, beliefs, and perspectives as wonderful -- like a huge buffet offering a multitude of treats. Only the maladjustedly blind would, it seems to me, aspire to mere color-blindness. I like rainbows.

6. I agree TahitiNut
I'm too am sick of all this color-blind crap. Yes, the law should be color-blind but humans are not, can not, and should not be color-blind.

I have black friends and brown friends and white friends, friends of african, middle eastern, latino, asian, and european, northern and southern, origins. No, their ethnic backgrounds do not wholly define who they are, just as certainly as mine does not define me, but it is a part of who they are. And thank goodness that this is the case.

I once had someone tell me that they had a friend who was black but that "she didn't think of her as black."

My response was, "Why not? Is being black something bad?"

Yes, my black friends are black. They're also school teachers and engineers and mechanics. They're also Christians and Muslims and agnostics. They're also male and female. They could be straight or gay. They can be and should be all these things and even then all these things combined don't wholly define who they are. It's all just bits and pieces, but important nonetheless.
