Afghanistan President Tours Rural Nebraska

Thursday May 26, 2005 4:46 AM

By JOE RUFF

Associated Press Writer

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Afghanistan has laid the foundation for a stable and independent government, but much work remains to be done, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Wednesday after receiving an honorary doctorate of letters at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

``My plea today, through this university ... to the rest of the world, is to remain with Afghanistan, to be steady and friendly with Afghanistan, until Afghanistan is able to stand on its own feet,'' Karzai said.

Karzai said his country has struggled for nearly three decades, including occupation by the former Soviet Union in the 1980s and oppression under the Taliban regime, which the United States routed in late 2001. Improvements are being made, Karzai said, with presidential elections held in October and parliamentary elections scheduled to take place in three months.

Given a key to the city of Omaha, Karzai said he hoped to establish a sister-city relationship between Omaha and Kabul, the Afghan capital.

My Comment: What's an 'afghanistan'? I don't know but did you see the beautiful scarf that man was wearing? Odd.

1. How does one become President if they're are no elections and you
happen to be appointed by The Bush Crime Family?

2. You know
the answer to that. Happenin' all over. It's the only way.

“As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” – H.L. Mencken

4. But, why couldn't he tour an urban "blue" area, too?
Why did he just visit a "red" state?

5. He's a Unocal shill, if I recall correctly...
He was a consultant to Unocal in the 90's during the whole Taliban/pipeline debacle.

7. This is hilarious. Karzai is in Nebraska?
Sister city? I guess they share one thing, they are both red staters that draw more money out from our government than they put in.

10. See all this Food and Productive Farmland?
It's what you would have if the USSR and US hadn't spent the last 20+ years Blowing the shit out of your little country.

But if you'll sell us a big fatty pipeline, then we'll shuck you some corn.

The Humanity of it all...
