In Qadissiya, in southern Baghdad, police said a member of the Shi'ite Muslim Dawa party, headed by Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, was assassinated at his brother's home.

Police said the man, Fakri Abed al-Amari, had come to Baghdad from the southern city of Najaf to take up a position in the interior ministry. Dawa party officials in Baghdad had no immediate information on the attack.

In another district of southern Baghdad, professor Moussa Salum, a deputy dean at Baghdad's Mustansiriya University, was gunned down as he was going to work, police and doctors said. Three of his bodyguards were also killed.

University professors have frequently been killed over the past two years, although Iraqi officials have struggled to explain the motive. Some believe the killings are linked to score-settling dating to Saddam Hussein's rule.

Four attacks occur within 70 minutes
Thursday, May 26, 2005 Posted: 3:47 AM EDT (0747 GMT)

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A suicide car bombing, a roadside bomb, a drive-by shooting and a stabbing death happened in just over one hour in Baghdad on Thursday morning, Iraqi police said.

The 70 minutes of violence started at 7:20 a.m. (11:20 p.m. EDT) when a roadside bomb exploded as a U.S. military convoy passed by in eastern Baghdad, police said. One Iraqi civilian was wounded, but there was no immediate word on U.S. casualties.

At 7:25 a.m. (11:25 p.m. EDT), a member of the al-Dawa Shiite party, identified as Fakri Abed al-Amri, was knifed to death as he left a relative's house in the al-Qadisiyah neighborhood of western Baghdad, police said. The man was left to die in the street, they said.

Another violent attack happened in western Baghdad just five minutes later -- at 7:30 a.m. (11:30 p.m. EDT) -- when a suicide car bomb targeting an Iraqi police patrol exploded in the al-Shi'lah neighborhood, killing three Iraqis, including two police officers, and wounding six others, Iraqi police said. The suicide bomb was carried inside a taxi, police said.

2. It looks as though they hit a "contractor"'s vehicle.

Even if someone in there was injured or killed they would not say.
