Explosives attached to a dog (Kirkuk, Iraq)
Explosives attached to a dog
From correspondents in Kirkuk
May 27, 2005

IRAQ insurgents attached explosives to a dog today in a bid to bomb a military convoy near the northern oil centre of Kirkuk but the animal was the only casualty, police said.

The insurgents wrapped an explosive belt around the dog's body and detonated it as the convoy passed through Dakuk, 40km south of Kirkuk, the town's police chief Colonel Mohammed Barzaji said.

"The dog was torn apart by the explosion which caused neither injury among the soldiers nor any damage," said Barzaji, adding that the bomb had been detonated outside a Shiite mosque.

"Eight suspects have been detained," he said.

5. We are killing our share of dogs over there.
The army kills all of the dogs and puppies in their camps.
Even the ones soldiers want to bring home.

It's all despicable, the lives lost for a lie.

9. The Russians and Eastern european insurgents did this in WW2 against
the Nazis. Dogs were trained to sprint under vehicles by having food etc under them. A pole was attached to the dogs back sticking upright which triggered the explosives. Quite effective allegedly butproblem with supply of trained dogs i believe.

13. Exactly right
Some upshot for Dr. Pavlov, huh? The Russians would often set dozens of dogs running across the plain to disrupt German tank advances. The Germans, needless to say, soon learned to shoot the dogs.

10. This has been done in numerous wars before.
Not to excuse it by any means. But it is hardly a new tactic.

The problem of humans refusing to see animals as anything other than tools does not know any borders. This is just as despicable as the way we treat animals in this country.

(And since I"ve been called a terrorist sympathizer on so many other sites, maybe this post will put that BS to rest once and for all. But I'm not holding my breath).

15. It's good to know I'm not alone.
Personally, I believe training dolphins to kill for us is much worse than making war with other humans.

I don't give a shit if anybody else in this forum thinks I'm an extremist, at least I care about something other that what directly affects me.
Environmental and Animal Rights terrorists only exist in the mind of the money worshipping whores.

18. I have been lurking in the
Veg group but I am so emotionally invested that I'm afraid the things I read in there (as far as anti-animal rights posts on DU) would defeat me before I could help.

This, for example:

They moved it to the LOUNGE. As if it was funny or trivial. WHY?

14. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war
Dogs have been used for military purposes throughout history. Remember that the Pentagon used dogs at Abu Ghraib to terrorize Iraqis, so nobody's hands are clean in this regard.

19. That is an old trick the Russians used against Hitler. They trained their
dogs to eat and find their food under their trucks. Then starved them. And strapped explosives with magnetic detonators. On their backs. The Germans had to shoot the dogs before they got under their trucks and tanks or it was boom time. The march to Stalingrad was a real bitch for the Nazi`s. That was only one of the nasty tactics the Russians used against Hitler. Anyone who thinks Bu$h is going to win his war crime. Knows nothing about real warfare. This is just starting to get nasty. And another fact about WWII. Hitler and his generals all knew the war was lost before they even got to Stalingrad. But being arrogant pricks like Bu$h and his gang they sacrificed the lives of their troops and civilians anyway. History does repeat itself. And I have 2 second cousins. Over in this war crime in Iraq now.
