Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, on a visit to England, discussed U.S. plans for a so-called trusted traveler scheme to speed entry of visitors.

Chertoff said the program would enable visitors from other countries to undergo vetting before they arrive in the United States, the Daily Telegraph newspaper in London reported Friday. Chertoff said the new program would seek to make travel to America more convenient.

The move comes after growing complaints from travelers delayed for up to four hours while officials verified they were not terrorists.

The trusted traveler scheme will be tried out first in the Netherlands, probably in two months' time, then hopefully extended to other countries including Britain, the newspaper said.
