U.S. Calls Killing of Anti-Syrian Lebanese Journalist `Heinous'
---------------------------------------
June 2 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. condemned the killing of a prominent anti-Syrian Lebanese journalist in a bombing today in Beirut.

``It's a heinous act,'' Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said of the killing of Samir Kassir, 45, an editorial writer for the Lebanese An-Nahar newspaper and a frequent commentator on Alhurra, the U.S.-funded, Arabic-language satellite television channel.

Kassir helped found Lebanon's Democratic Left movement, a main force behind the protests triggered by the Feb. 14 murder of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri. Many blamed Syria for Hariri's murder. The United Nations is investigating who was behind the killing.

Kassir died instantly today when a bomb planted under his car exploded in a mainly Christian residential neighborhood of eastern Beirut, Agence France-Presse reported.

Speaking after a meeting with European officials in Washington, Rice said the bombing was directed by ``someone that's trying to intimidate the Lebanese people as they move through this electoral cycle.''

3. Really, Condi?
What about all those American, ME and European anti-Iraq-war journalists that have been killed.

I guess they were just "accidents," eh?

6. Iran said U.S. media is advising Iranians not to vote in their election
Maybe this is the station to which they are referring.

"Alhurra, the U.S.-funded, Arabic-language satellite television channel"

7. Off topic, but, why would a highly educated black woman be a republican
unless she was a complete sell out? Condi is in it for power, fame, and money. She has to be a total phony.

She knows damn well that the racist, misogynistic republican party would still be lynching blacks and making sure women stayed in the home "where they belong" if republican conservatives could get away with it.
