Russia's Putin Warns U.S. of Prolonged Iraq War
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=564&e=5&u=/nm/iraq_putin_dc

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The United States could face a prolonged and futile war in Iraq (news - web sites) as the Soviet Union did in Afghanistan (news - web sites) in the 1980s, Russian President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites) said in an interview published in Monday's edition of The New York Times.

Putin called the U.S. decision to invade Iraq "an error."

The Russian leader also told the newspaper that his country would consider partial relief of the $8 billion it is owed by Iraq if other major creditors in the Paris Club do likewise. But for now he ruled out sending troops to help in Iraq.

Putin warned in the interview that Iraq could "become a new center, a new magnet for all destructive elements."

2. *sigh*
It's amazing how the American media reports Georgey and Pootie-cakes as being chums, buddies, and in total agreement at every opportunity they get. And yet every statement Poot's ever put out on his own is very critical of the whole Iraq fiasco.

And who could forget his delicious public dressing down of Tony Blair when they had a joint news conference supposedly endorsing the "setting aside of differences."

I don't believe Georgey's "Putin's a good man" crap, but I get a thrill everytime he calls the 'Coalition of the Willing' on their stupidity anyway.
