Bickering may blow spot in Super Tuesday primaries for Texas
AUSTIN -- Continued Republican infighting over congressional redistricting Sunday apparently will cost Texas its spot in the "Super Tuesday" primaries that could decide who is the Democratic presidential nominee in 2004.

The House and Senate had planned to come in Sunday to debate a final GOP congressional redistricting proposal. But after negotiations between Republican legislators broke down Saturday, both chambers met briefly, then adjourned until Wednesday.

Secretary of State Geoff Connor has said that if a plan is not adopted by midnight today he will not be able to conduct a primary as scheduled on March 2. Connor, the state's chief elections officer, said the primary would have to be moved to March 9.

2. Like the GOPers in charge give a shit
They couldn't care less whether Texas Dem voters have any say in the Dem nomination process.

5. realize
One of the districts is taking voters away from Republican
congressmen to create a new one to benefit a friend
of George in Midland... somehow the Pukes do not like this.

7. Swell
I have waited for 10 years to be able to vote in a truly meaningful presidential primary, and not just a beauty contest.

Maybe there is still time to move to New Hampshire?

8. The Texas 10 (Plus One Other) Should Bail Again
If they're able to hold out for even a month, that should scuttle the Thug plans pretty well. I don't think they'd be able to use the new districts in the 2004 elections.

9. They lost one participant, so they don't have the numbers any more
The reason they are back in Austin is because one of the 11 bailed on them (Whitmire). 10 is not enough to prevent a quorum. So the rest came back as well.

Bailing again is not an option unless Whitmire goes with them. And I get the feeling he's been paid off.

12. It isn't about Democrats any more
... they got that all worked out. The republicans are fighting over their own districts!!! It isn't enough they are going to add 5-6 republicans to congress .. they want to steal another rep district so the oil group can be duly represented.. those poor underpriviledged souls ..

As of today, Gov Perry isn't even in the state . Debay is handling the negotiations ..

I want my country baaaaaaaaaaack

13. Where's Perry?
Whose butt out of state is he kissing right now? I hope he isn't giving Ah-nold a primer on state govt. He certainly hasn't done anything remarkably compassionate here. Bastards.

14. I Am Reaching a Point of Indifference
My existence does not matter to society unless I am rich or willing to be a slave.

I am a human being and I am tired of living in a defacto slave state.

Time to renew that passport; its time to leave!
