Hopefully it will die down a little and won't distract as much from Conyers and the DSM by then.

3. OK, let's start the betting
Who's gonna go for full acquittal?

Guilty on some counts, not guilty on others?

Michael faints when the verdict is read?

Now I almost wish I'd followed the damn circus.

I could see him getting 'contributing to the delinquency" for the alcohol, but I bet he's acquitted of the sex charges.

53. I don't want to be less than candid. I am not a fan of Michael Jackson,
but I don't see where the prosecution even remotely proved its case. I could have sworn that it was announced he could get 12 months in the country jail for giving alcohol to a minor. Maybe I am wrong.

157. I think theoretically you might be able to get that strict
but no one goes to jail for giving alcohol to a minor one a first offence. it's the type of charge you get when a 20 year old comes to your party and gets busted.

15. My predictions...
I predict that Jackson will be found not guilty on all of the bizarro charges that allege he held the child and the family against their will. I haven't been following the case close enough to remember the legal terms for those charges.

However, I think he will be found guilty of the molestation charges.

His reaction will be dramatic. I predict he faints, cries, screams, etc.

His parents will also have dramatic reactions.

16. My guess, guilty
of giving alcohol to a minor. Probably not guilty on the rest. Good chance of fainting on Michael's part, if he makes it to the courtroom at all.

I haven't followed this circus either, this is just my guess based upon the little that I have heard.

One thing for sure, tonight it will be Michael Jackson non stop of the news.

Conspiracy charges will be not guilty--difficult to prove.

79. Not sure...
Almost every legal expert I've read has already predicted he will be found innocent on the serious charges but found guilty on the lesser ones. But the question is, can he handle prison at all, even if it's only 6 months and not 20+ years?

80. I think he's going to get away with all of it.
If I'm wrong, I PROMISE to come back and RETRACT that statement after the verdict's read.

I'm thinking hung jury or lesser offenses that he can blow off by doing "community service," A.K.A. "a charity concert."

In a few short minutes I will KNOW if I'm psychic or simply full of crap.

91. Supposedly the prosecutors celebrated last week over dinner...
...and only the lawyers, judge and jury were privy to what information the jury requested. I think that is telling enough that he will at least be convicted on some counts.

State Appeals court and then the State Supreme court.

Since it's a felony crime, the federal district appeals judge, federal district appeals court, Supreme Court.

88. If he is found guilty of the lesser charges...
...he can appeal before going to jail. If he is found guilty of the more serious charges the appeals will have to be filed after he goes to jail.

Not sure of the source on that, but I think it's accurate...

And if he walks, I predict we'll see another lawsuit.

The guy has serious issues.

Plus: I don't follow these TV trials, and I stayed away fro m this circus. Yet, a few weeks ago I caught something while watching some TV news show. They said they caught two of the jurors making fun and cracking jokes about some of the alleged victims of abuse of Jacko.

That led me to think it's going to be another case of the O.J.s!

It'll be THE hot topic for the next 2 weeks on cable news. They'll have (seemingly) serious discussions and interviews with legal experts - my mind goes numb just thinking about it. But thank goodness we'll be spared the serious business of examining the DSM during that time. Sarcasm off.

The DSM needs to be acted upon by Congress and impeachment proceedings need to eventually start, but the public will continue to drag it's collective knuckles on Iraq. Otherwise President Kerry would be sitting in the Oval Office right now.

turned around and faced the camera, and looked decidedly unwell. As you would expect.

The doors to the courtroom have been closed and the reading will begin once the jurors have been seated. Prosecutors and Defense counsel are seated at their tables and are waiting on the jurors, then the judge to be brought in...

verdict form (there are 30) is inside a closed envelope. Each envelope must be opened, silently proof-read by the judge, and put back into its individual envelope... takes time when you've got 30 of 'em.

179. Jackson not guilty on all counts
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 04:25 PM by derby378
Michael Jackson was found not guilty Monday on all counts in his trial on child molestation charges, concluding a two-year legal saga for one of the world's most well-known pop stars.

The courtroom sat silently as Judge Rodney Melville opened the jury envelopes one by one and silently read the verdict forms to himself before allowing the court clerk to read the verdict out loud.

Outside the courthouse, fans shouted and wept with joy over Jackson's acquittal.

Jackson, 46, was indicted on 10 counts for allegedly molesting a then-13-year-old cancer patient, serving him wine and then conspiring to hold him and his family captive. The charges against him included four allegations of molestation, one of attempted molestation, four of serving alcohol to a minor and one for conspiracy.

Look, the prosecution did the best they could, but it was a weak case.

The victim's credibility, unfortunately, was impeached. The jury could only follow the law. It's not their fault.

For the record, I believe he's guilty as hell, but you've got to get it done within the constraints of the law and they didn't.

199. MICHAEL JACKSON FOUND NOT GUILTY ON ALL CHARGES!

On CNN now. I will provide a news link as soon as possible.

I'm pleased with the verdict. This will drive the right-wingnuts .... NUTS!

Jackson is certainly a strange bird with bizarre behavior. But, that does not make him a pedophile. He liked pornography featuring adult heterosexual males/females, not child pornography, and I suspect such pornography would not interest an adult male pedophile interested in the same sex. Just a feeling. I don't know if that's a fact.

Michael Jackson, on the advice of friends and attorneys, will certainly end any more activity that could open him up to future victimization by people hoping to strike it rich.

not be interested. At least that's the theory, and it's a plausible one.

I'm quite sure he is a pedophile, and all parents should keep their kids away from him. Unfortunately the case against him was too weak, and I don't fault the jurors for voting as they did. But common sense tells me this guy is a major freak who cares nothing about anybody but himself. He is surrounded by yes men and acts like the little boy on that episode of the Twilight Zone with the omnipotent powers who sends anyone who displeases him out to the corn patch.

...if any good has resulted from this case, I think we all know what Micheal and Neverland are about (as if we didn't before). His responses when asked about the appearance of impropriety in having a young child in his bed is like something out of a NAMBLA recruiting video. The usual "oooh, you don't understand, you are the one with a dirty mind, this is beautiful, so innocent, they love it, the kids understand, you don't, etc." Repugnant. Neverland may have started out as his personal theme park where he could regress to his widdle heart's content, but he turned it into a recruiting ground for his victims. Anyone that thinks he merely has "issues" and is some misguided but well meaning manchild desperately needs a reality check. Having said all this, the case against him was flawed and I understand the verdict as well.

edit for grammar

223. ahh, so because people who can afford good lawyers
don't get railroaded by weak cases like poor people do, we should blame the wealthy? I don't get it. The prosecution case was a mess. But it's likely that anyone with a weaker defense team would have pled out to avoid a lifetime in jail. Jackson's money forced the prosecution to put on a strong case, and they didn't have one. That's called justice, not bias.

Instead of complaining about people getting their rights, who don't you complain about those that don't?

241. there is a right to the best defense you can procure
a right to have an attorney of your chosing represent you in a court of law. You know, for someone who has reportedly molested many children over 15 years, you'd think that maybe, just maybe, they could get one or two witnesses who manage NOT to lie?

If you believe in justice you should celebrate the fact that a weak case put forth by a prosecutor was defeated. All to often, that does not happen. Don't complain about the people with good lawyers, complain about the ones that don't have good lawyers.

Or would you rather have vigilante justice? Kremlin-esque show trials?

If all it took was money, then our poor Martha wouldn't have had to spend the holidays behind bars having to wear those tacky khakis!

Personally, I think MJ is weird as hell, but not a pedophile. If he were into little boys he could have bought himself a dozen and kept them hidden away. He wouldn't have been so open and invited parents over and all that.

I'm glad with the verdict because now he'll go into seclusion and the media won't be able to speculate for weeks about the sentencing, parole, all that.

Even though there weren't cameras in the courtroom, everything that happened was reported by multitudes of witnesses and professional journalists. The only information we weren't privy to was the jury deliberations and the questions they asked the judge.

To me this proves nothing more than the fact that this jury found nothing wrong with a middle-aged man serving alcohol to kids and then sleeping with them. Oh, only if that man is a huge pop music star.

I wonder if they asked for his autograph afterwards?

The whole sordid business is disgusting. Money can buy anything in America.

260. Why?
Because if you followed the trial and the evidence you can surmize they reached the wrong verdict on several of the counts.

Take the exact same evidence and change the defendant. Does that person get off? Of course not.

3 previous accusations (3 previous settlments). Several witnesses confirming various parts of the charges. (alcohol to minors, etc..) A consistent story told by the victim. People focus on their being no physical evidence... since when do you find physical evidence in child molestation cases. These usually come down to word against word.

The entire defense built around the concept that he is a celebrity and people are just out to get him. Why him? Why aren't they after Brad Pitt or Elizabeth Taylor or some other celebrities?

Let's face it. The guy was guilty, but celebrities have a different threshold of doubt. To convict a celebrity, beyond reasonable doubt doesn't work anymore. You have to find them beyond ALL doubt, which isn't the standard, but that doesn't matter, because they celebrities people see them differently and that well, just sucks.

262. the way these stories are plastered in the media, the accused is guilty
before they even walk into the court room. I am going to admit that I didn't keep up with this trial to claim to know if Jackson is or is not guilty. But those 12 jurors were exposed to every piece of evidence and testimony that was relavent to this case, I'll defer to them to determine if it was enough to justify a conviction or not.

A trial where you are judged by your peers is the system we have, not one where you are judge by news commentators and angry pundits salivating for controversy and sensationalism.

Michael had boys in his bed, (yes, it's out of the norm but not sexual molestation) and they could not PROVE he did anything wrong. At least it's over and now let's get this Downing Street Memo as much coverage as Michael had.

That's what they should have done. Prosecute the parents that are willing to prostitute their children in hopes of a large settlement or just a weekend at neverland ranch.

I didn't follow the trial, but from what little evidence I heard, the victim and his family weren't very sympathetic characters. The circus like atmosphere that the prosecution helped create with their carefully timed releases of titillating details probably hindered their case as well.

307. Kidding right?
Downing Street Minutes...the minutes of a meeting Blair had that lays out the fixing of intel and the US's blantant desire for war with Iraq at all costs....don't wait for the "media' to report it read about it here. And CAFTA is the Central American free trade agreement which would gut the last bit of american industry and farming for big corporate assholes to make a buck by sending the work to Central and South America at the US's expense. It would end US sugar farmers and what is left of textiles work done in the US for cheap labour and cheap sugar.

I do hope you are joking.

288. MJ has been railroaded by the media É

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=224&topic_id=656&mesg_id=656

Remember the rumor that MJ had a surgery on his privates to keep his high pitched voice?

What if that is true. He does have an unusually high pitched voice for someone his age.

What if the surgery affected his sexual desire or his ability to perform sexually and thatÕs
why we never saw MJ with someone?

What if MJ prefers the company of animals or children more than he does adults?

It is known that some people replace their relationships with pets because theyÕre sick
of all the ass kissing and two faced bulls**t adults partake in.

Maybe MJ is one of those kinds of people?

IÕm just speculating about the rumors IÕve heard about MJ just like everyone else.

Remember how ridiculed MJ was for having a pet chimpanzee? It is still an exotic pet
but now it wouldnÕt cause such a fuss as it did 15 years ago.

310. And you know this how?
Maybe your own hysteria in defending MJ shows something about YOUR thought process. A little defensive are we, eh?
Hey, it makes as much sense as what you are saying.
I think he was probably guilty of the charges but have no problem with the verdict as I think the case was not tried well.
Believe me, if I had his money and resources, sleeping with young boys would be the last thing on my mind.
Project much?

312. It doesn't take a genius
you are a fool to believe the corporate media's accusations--the same media that brought you WMD's--

and regarding your comment,
let me ask-
what's wrong with sleeping?
or do you imagine other things going on?
that's what projecting is.

In re: The Media Legal Pundits Guild LLC, Careerist District Attorneys Association of America, Morally Upright Citizens' Brigade, Exploitative Parents of Children with Severe Illnesses Inc, Focus on the Outrage Inc, The American Union of Hack Stand-Up Comedians, Americans For More Prison Rape Inc, and Self-Styled Child Advocates LLC, et al., v. Michael "Wacko Jacko" Jackson (A Private Corporation and Dayum-Foo').

Before joining DemocraticUnderground, I thought the term "Liberal Lynch Mob" was a term created by the right-wingnuts.

But after dozens of DU Pedo Frenzies, and now a court case which appears to be taken from the scenes cut from It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, I humbly admit my error. But still think Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, Savage-Weiner et al. are purblind jackasses.

In my humble and similarly omniscient opinion, Michael Jackson should learn French, German and/or Italian and re-locate Neverland to Europe, where "eccentric" does NOT equal "pedophile". (And Europe has some world-class pedophiles, none of them "eccentric".)

306. Why would we need to cut and paste from there, there are plenty of
freep-style comments right here.

I am sorely disappointed as I once again am reminded of how much of the MSM crap even DUers can swallow. People who should know better.

And we blame the rest of the country for being so easily brainwashed?

296. Not Surprised
I thought the jury would come back with a not guilty verdict. First, the case was destroyed by the defense. Second, it took the jury so long to come out with a verdict. It seems that if the jury thought he was guilty they would have come out with a verdict sooner.

298. A couple of the jurors have publicly stated that they believe that
Michael Jackson has molested boys in the past. They just didn't believe this accuser, mostly because of his mother. Michael must stop sleeping with the young boys (which he's publicly says is OK), or this situation could happened for him again. Personally, I think a middle age man (or any man) has no business sleeping in bed with a young boy. Just seems strange and suspect.

299. Not a surprising verdict, all things considered.
They couldn't have picked a worse witness than the mother, IMO - I
heard a snippet on the radio here from two of the jurors (women) who
said they were really angry when she snapped her fingers at them
(I don't know when that was, I haven't followed it that closely).
She was so obviously out for the money, after having allowed her
boys to stay at Neverland in the first place, and juries are all too
human.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Michael Jackson had never had sex
with anybody, male or female, in his life. I think he's a sad case
of arrested development, but I just have a feeling that everything
happens in his head.

309. Michael Jackson trail is just another distraction of the
failure of Iraq war, promoted by the pro-republican media.

A girl missed in Aruba, and that's this morning's top news item from NBC Today Show.

Time to turn off the TV.
