Jury of Blacks and Whites Seated in Mississippi to Hear Murder Trial of Reputed Klansman

http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBIVDUZZ9E.html PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (AP) - A jury panel of four blacks and 13 whites was seated Wednesday for the murder trial of a reputed Ku Klux Klansman accused in the 1964 slayings of three civil rights workers.
In opening statements in the case against 80-year-old Edgar Ray Killen, defense attorney Mitch Moran said for the first time that Killen can be assumed to have been a member of the KKK at the time of the slayings of Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman and James Chaney.
But he added: "The Klan's not on trial here. Being a member of the Klan is not on trial here."
The 17 panelists were not immediately told which ones will be on the jury and which ones will serve as alternates.
