The Long Island Press has confirmed with the Nassau County DA’s office that a criminal investigation has been opened into a host of alleged illegal activities perpetrated by a number of Nassau County’s top officials.
The Press has also learned that the Grand Jury is hearing testimony on the matter.
At the heart of the investigation, says Nassau DA spokesperson Katie Grille-Robles, are allegations brought forth in a $35 million lawsuit by former county employee Georgina Morgenstern. Though filed in January 2004, news of Morgenstern and her lawsuit was first brought to the public’s attention in “The Whistleblower,” the May 26, 2005 Long Island Press cover story.
“What’s under investigation are the allegations that were contained in Mrs. Morgenstern’s lawsuit,” says Grille-Robles.
